For an airport with a reputation for being a little bit of a challenge, Reigle has remarkably clear approaches, except for the road, which really isn't a major factor. Go a little further north, and longer runways seem tighter because of hills, trees, etc. Reigle is in good shape, and the runway isn't really that short. That said, I think putting in a VASI for the runway 31 approach might be a good idea to help with the comfort level of the folks worried about the 1600' left after the displaced threshold.

I flew in for a quick Hershey fix on 6/30/07. The Airport is well maintained, the short runway is not a problem. The local aviators are polite and patient with new comers negotiating a slow landing over and active road to a short runway. BTW, the Chevy owner with the tire mark on the roof, just send me the bill. The folks at the airport are very welcoming and go out of their way to make your stay in the area a pleasurable one. Called for a taxi to Hershey 21 bucks one-way, came in less than ½ hour.

Flew in Oct-8 for a day at Hershey Park. Unicom very responsive - call ahead for a taxi on Unicom if you want to go to Hershey. Office is friendly and responsive. Taxi is about a 1/2-hour wait and about a $21 ride, or $25 with tip. Short field is not a problem, and I was able to depart with < 34 gallons and two adults and children in a Cherokee 140. I would suggest a notch of flaps for departure, though.

Reigle airport does have a relatively short runway with a road on one approach end. Transient pilots tend to have trouble with this runway because they try to avoid the road by flying high and are not on their short field approach speed. Many pilots compensate by coming unnecessarily low over the road when they can simply fly a high approach AT A SLOW SPEED. Just keep a high angle, bring the power back early and glide it in maybe 5kts slower then you would at a larger runway. You should have no problem putting the plane down the first half of the runway.
