Michael Haisten went out of his way to help me get back in the air after an unplanned landing at Auburn airport. My airplane had just come back into service after its annual inspection. I was enroute from O02 to KSQL when I noticed some splattering on the windshield that looked like oil. I made an unplanned landing at KAUN. Michael was most helpful. He dropped what he was doing and came out to look at my airplane. He determined that the propeller had lost a lot of grease and that was what had splattered all over everything. He towed the airplane to his hangar and immediately found the problem. It was a metal shaving that had stuck in the ball valve of a zerk fitting allowing the grease to seep out under pressure. After cleaning up the airplane and refilling the propeller with a large quantity of grease, he said "I've never put this much grease in a propeller!" My thanks to Mr. Haisten for another great aviation experience!
