My wife and I flew to Benton Harbor for her first cross country flight. We were greeted at the ramp and received the first class treatment. Great people at the FBO who are as passionate about flying as we are. They made us feel right at home. If you are flying up the lakeshore this is a great place to stop and fuel up and stretch your legs. We will go back again.

Diverted to KBEH/AVSAT for weather. Jan suggested we use their hangar at no charge due to possibility of hail. We accepted. We tried to wait out the front which brought us through closing time. Jan let us have the run of the facility including the crew car. He suggested restaurants and the Boulevard Inn, which was a real bargain including hot breakfast in their beautiful BISTRO restaurant. Obviously we wound up staying the night. We returned the van the next morning and since the weather was still IFR, we left the plane, rented a car and drove to MSP to catch a flight to California. Rick the manager allowed us to leave the plane in their hangar at a very very modest rate till we returned a week later. Cathy gave us a ride to Avis to pick up our rental car. I really can't say enough good things about Jan, Rick, and Cathy at this FBO. We really felt like members of the family. Wife and I wish that KBEH/AVSAT were closer as we'd happily use it as our home base.

Flew in from Wisconsin, nice FBO, odd layout. It appears this airport has seen better days. Very little activity when we were there. Bought fuel, and took the van into town for lunch. No strict time limit just had to be back before they closed. Overall good experience would stop again.

Flew in yesterday for a nice "flight around the lake", from Illinois. My sister and I were well treated and were given both the van and directions to a nice restaurant in town - no restrictions. I'll definitely come back - beautiful lake views while landing on RW-9/27.

Be aware that if Malcolm is working you will be limited to one hour on the courtesy van. He was very rude to my girlfriend when she went to request the van, going so far as to imply that he was too busy to 'get up' and that because she was a woman he was worried that she wouldn't be able to pull the van out of the hangar without damaging it. In 11 years of flying to small and large airports all over the country, I have never experienced anything remotely similar. An hour is simply not enough time to get to the harbor and eat (he had suggested that we go to McDonalds!) and when I called to request an additional 20 minutes, he was rude to me as well. I could understand the time limit if it was the middle of summer...but there was literally no one else there. Fortunately for all involved Malcolm was not in the office when I returned the car, and we left without buying fuel, and with a very poor impression of this airport.

Very nice staff. FBO is a part of the former passenger air terminal building, although they said it had been years since they had commercial air service at BEH. No real pilot areas, just a weather terminal located in an old waiting area that also had a couple of chairs and a TV. Nice courtesy van - again great staff.
