Still not open on Sundays. Big airport, good place to practice cross winds!

Plenty of runway and a new, very clean, terminal. People are friendly and helpful, weather service is dated but functional, no Internet access.

We cannot say enough about Jack Perry and airport manager Jim Little and their folks after we had to spend nearly three days in Big Spring waiting out the weather. Mr. Little has established the standard for small airport facilities. The terminal, and especially the pilot’s lounge and flight planning area are awesome! We had unlimited use of the crew car to while away the time. Mr. Perry got our T-34 into his hangar and out of the rain and gave us anything we needed to get it dried out. Good hotels in the area but you have to call early to get a room, as the interstate travelers also like to stay there. If you have to go through West Texas this is the place to stop!

While on the way to Pecos, Tx, our alternator quit generating power. Stopped in at Lone Star Aviation. Mr. Perry stopped what he was doing and helped troubleshoot the problem and fixed it within an hour. We were soon on our way. The good people at the terminal also provided my wife the courtesy car to get lunch while the airplane was being worked. The new terminal building is excellent and the receptionist was very helpful.

Lone Star is not open on Sunday. They will however come out to fuel your aircraft for an extra fee. I'm not sure what the extra fee is since luckily for our trip someone did not show up and the line guy just happened to be there and was able to give us some fuel.
