Great stop before entering the ADIZ. Fill up on cheap fuel, call in your flight plan, and you are on your way. No frills stop. But the T-6 Texans flying in formation are quite entertaining.

Several mechanics at two other shops failed to determine, over a 4 weeks, why two alternators successively went bad on my plane, even though none of the fuses were popping. I finally took it to White Hawk and after carefully following the electric diagram they determined that the only circuit not on a fuse was related to the ammeter. After carefully checking that circuit, they discovered that the ammeter's shank had been replaced with a strip of metal (I suspect by Dulles Aviation) -- causing overvoltages that were repeatedly frying other equipment (which started happening after Dulles "fixed" the ammeter, but they kept blaming the problem on bad alternators). I was very impressed with the level of knowledge at White Hawk and their willingness to look beyond the obvious to track down a problem that was not obvious, especially after so many other mechanics failed to find the problem. Even though I'm based at Manassas, I'm now using White Hawk as my main AP shop.

I flew into Culpepper, I was ferrying an Aztec to Ft. Lauderdale, n800sp, would you believe the strut went flat. The nice people there pumped up the strut for me, when I was ready to leave the battery was dead. Wouldn’t charge, they had a good used one, which they gave to me!

Culpeper is one of the nicest little airports around. A lot of classic birds on the field. The guys at White Hawk are great. Reasonable prices for aviation and out to do a good job rather than take you to the cleaners. Thorough and knowledgeable, able to fabricate parts, and they (almost) never complain about how tight Mooneys are to work on! - Cheers, AJ
