I have been reading some of the comments left about KFAM, and I do understand that it has had its problems in the past. The airport is undergoing a reconstruction at the moment and the city is taking control for the time being. I am going to be a graduate at Southern Illinois University for aviation management, and hopefully will be able to get my masters in AVM as well. One of the things that I would like to do is apply to become the assistant manager at KFAM, and if I am selected I will try to do my best to address any of the complaints if possible. I am a fellow pilot as well so I understand the frustration! Happy flying!

Flew into FAM. There was another aircraft landing ahead of me and the AWOS was loud and clear 20-15nm out. The terminal is gone, and a trailer was in its place. It was closed on a Saturday afternoon. The bathroom was locked and the ground is RED CLAY!

The City of Farmington is presently constructing a new terminal area and will demolish the existing terminal area over the next few weeks. The City is also assuming operational control of the airport. A new terminal building will be completed in June 2008. A temporary terminal facility is located on the newly constructed apron. The City is providing staffing at the airport during normal business hours and the temporary terminal facility may be accessed after hours by contacting the Farmington Police Department at 573.756.6686. The new fuel systems are now operational and are credit card operated for 24-hour access.

I had to divert here around some thunderstorms which were over a planned fuel stop. It was after-hours and not a soul around, the FBO was locked up tight and no after-hours phone number for fuel. No self-serve. There were various signs posted at the terminal building which were somewhat threatening in nature. I won't be stopping here again.

Flew into KFAM this past Saturday for a Semi-final football game (Hannibal vs. Farmington). Found the attendant to be helpful in suggesting eating-place -- we chose "Wings" -- I also recommend. The courtesy car leaves a lot to be desired (retired police car) but it got my party to the eating-place, football field, and back by closing time 5:00pm. In conversation with attendant, sounds like there will be a complete spruce-up of entire airport by next year (runway & buildings). I didn't need gas, but I enjoyed interacting with the attendant & his cat.

I have to agree with the other comments suggesting that better service and facilities are available elsewhere. Looks like a nice terminal building. Shame no one gets to use it. Pass this place up.

I've had my aircraft serviced at FAM since 1978 and have never had an unfavorable experience. It, like many municipal airports, is not manned 24/7. An earlier posting (Sept 2005) said the FBO was a stickler for following the rules. Turns out that the commenter had violated airspace minimums and was (properly) reported. Any pilot who witnesses voluntary safety violations should report them. The manager and pets at FAM is a friendly atmosphere for visitors and customers. (Pardon the cat and dog if you would)

Had to divert to FAM due to severe wx on our original more southerly route on April 28. Called on unicom after landing and fueler was at the pumps before we were. Went into office and Larry was quick to offer his laptop for wx checking. Provided courtesy car and recommendations to good restaurant (Spokes). After lunch, rechecked wx and Larry offered some suggestions on alternative routes, made moot by sudden 25-30 knot crosswind, with gusts over 40. Larry again suggested good motel and provide transportation. For an umplanned stop at an airport where we did not intend to be, this was a pleasant experience.

We will be flying up from Georgia to Missouri to visit family this weekend. After reading these comments we will stop at H88 instead of KFAM. "Word of mouth" advertising does work. Thank you AirNav! I am posting this so that the operators of FAM will see that they need to improve. I will be buying a fair amount of fuel when I arrive.

Definitely a D- grade for this operation if you call it that. I had to divert to Farmington because of thunderstorms in St. Louis. I taxied in and tied down. I went to the "terminal/pilots lounge" and it was locked. I went to the hanger next door and asked if I could get in there to sit and check the weather. They would not open the building and said that they were closing the hanger soon so I would have to sit in my airplane. The cat litter box in the hanger was bad too. So I sat out a thunderstorm in my airplane. This place is a bad name to aviation and should not be in business at all. I would definitely advise all pilots to stay away from here until they get new people to run business. The worst example of a business I have ever seen. Very inhospitable. I would hate to be stuck here for very long.

Service is not quite what you think at a small town airport FBO. Beware when flying in/out of this airport make sure you adhere to all required things that you need to be aware of as a pilot. Also, just to let everyone know that Farmington, Airport airspace is in Class E. If you don't know this beware of the airport manager because he does like to call the 1-800 tell the FAA hotline. Also, when using the unicom frequency make sure you make all the standard callouts recommended by the AIM or you might get accused of not giving your position in the airport traffic area. Thought anyone that might be flying in/out of this airport would want to be aware of these issues.
