I enjoyed visiting First Flight Airport at Kill Devil Hills but was a little disappointed that it did not have a Welcome To First Flight Airport sign in the parking area. It would be nice if the airport board would erect a Welcome sign in the parking lot so visitors could take a picture of the sign with the Wright Brothers monument in the background. It would be nice if the welcome sign read: Welcome to First Flight Airport Kill Devil Hills, N. C. It was near this site that the First Flight of a powered aircraft was made December 17, 1903 by Orville and Wilbur Wright. Thank you very much.

The runway is in good repair, but the Wright Brothers Memorial is under maintenance and is somewhat dismantled. This doesn't prevent a good time during your visit, however it might impair the photo opportunities. Food, Fuel, and Ground Services are non-existent, but the AOPA Flight Planning Center is clean and well kept. Remember to bring your AOPA number to check on the winds and weather prior to departure, and squawk VFR to enter. The bathrooms were open and there were ample picnic tables to eat something you've brought.

The new pilot facility sure beats the old wooden phone booth they used to have. Make sure you have your AOPA password to use the weather computers. Great place to visit for any aviator.

Been here a bunch of times by car. First time by plane yesterday. Still a great place however the restrooms were locked. It was nice to go 230mph over the traffic sitting on the bridge not moving!

I flew in a few weeks ago; the AOPA building is very nice. The only disappointment was that the restrooms were locked and it was only noon.

A very cool experience. APOA has built a very nice pilot briefing lounge with bathrooms, very clean and nicely equipped. For something to eat a mild walk is necessary but not too bad.

Made my first flight as a licensed Private Pilot to FFA this afternoon. Airstrip is right next to the Wright memorial. There is a clean restroom and pilot planning room with 2 weather computers right next to the ramp. BRING YOUR OWN TIEDOWNS. No taxi way, but it appears there is one in progress. Nice easy in and out and a must visit for all pilots. No fuel or services, other than the planning computers and AOPA literature.

Flew in on July 31. Very hazy conditions made it hard to see banner towing aircraft. Be careful if you fly along the beach and keep a sharp lookout for traffic. The facility was nice and had A/C in the weather room. Punch in VFR squawk code to gain access to the weather room. Right now they are cutting down trees along the edges of the runway to make a wider wing clearance for larger craft in case of an emergency. Runway is in good shape.

Stopped here overnight while visiting friends in Kitty Hawk. They appear to be building a taxiway, and the AOPA facility was nice to have available. Watch out for banner towers and sight seeing planes in the area.

This is a trip worth making. See the Wright Bros. Memorial and grounds. Remember don't tie down longer than 24 hours! And bring your own ropes. Watch for deer on and along the runway. The heard is beautiful and plentiful, especially at dusk.
