What a great little mountain airstrip! I take the family up to our mountain house about 3 or 4 times a year. Marvin, the Airport Mgr is a one-man operation...And he is just about the nicest guy you'll ever meet. Big FBO's have more staff, but don't get half the service you'll find at GEV. If you go, and intend to purchase 100LL...Take cash! Marvin hates the credit card machine and he give a substantial discount for cash. The Local Ford dealership handles rental cars and they have been GREAT to work with. Car gets dropped off and picked up by the dealership...Doesn't get any easier than that. Almost a 2% grade on the runway so plan on landing on 28 and taking off from 10. Watch for crosswinds on final, it can get a bit sporty if the winds are up.

On March 9, 2008, we had a great visit at Ash County Airport. Mr. Stump, the airport manager, helped us get some lunch, showed us around the town, and told us about his time as a communications officer on a B-17 during WWII in Germany. He told us that he has been at Ash County for 22 years. Mr. Stump filled out plane with gas that was $4.20 a gallon for cash. I tried to help, since he's 84 years old, but he would not allow that. Cash is preferred over credit. The only downside to the visit was the Ash County government does not allow dogs in the terminal. Other than that is was a great experience. Thanks Mr. Stump.

Given recent developments in the management of the airport I would have to say go somewhere else unless you really have to stop here.

Mr. Stump is very nice, but his credit card system is antiquated. After pumping the gas, he spent 55 minutes wrestling with his 800 phone number trying to get my Visa approved. When I nicely said I had to leave soon (I was in the middle of a 1200 mile business trip), he got flustered and started draining the fuel from my plane. I finally convinced him that I was not a crook, gave him all the spare cash I had, even let him speak to my Visa's security dept who told them that the card was fine. After much discussion, he let me go with the promise that I'd mail him a check for the remaining $80 when I got home. I feel bad for Mr. Stump, because with gas approaching $5/gal, I don't carry enough cash to fill my plane, especially on a long trip. Fuel is $4/gal cash price. Great service as long as you pay cash.

I fly into GEV frequently, Marvin Stump is a one of a kind guy and a credit to the way aviation used to be. Great stop for fuel, lunch, and conversation, just don't be in a hurry and always bring cash. One of the nicest GA airports in the country.

Marvin Stump and KGEV are the coolest pair in GA today. Stopped in for an Angel Flight pickup and found friendly service, nice folks, the afore-mentioned 50-cent cash discount, and a neat little airport up on a hill. KGEV is now at the top of my list for fuel stops!

Flew in here last weekend. Couldn't get the plane started on departure. Marvin Stump, who manages the FBO and is a delightful person, was quick to give me a jump with his tractor and get me going. Fuel is $4, .50 cents more if you want to use a credit card. Easy to fly into when approaching from the east, but don't forget about all of the rising terrain around the rest of the airport. Nice feeling knowing you have 4200 feet of asphalt for takeoff and landing!
