Stopped into Hugo on June 4, 2008 from ABQ on our way home to Atlanta. Young man immediately came out to help with the fueling. Great gas price of less than $4.00/gallon. Bathrooms were clean and nice for the wife. Not much else there. Was in & out in 30 minutes.

Fuel pumps not working, airport manager not answering phone, a wasted trip

Response from Dorsey Myers, Airport Manager, Stan Stamper Municipal Airport
In the past month and a half, we've experienced technical difficulties with our credit card machine not allowing customers access to fuel. Please be assured that this issue has been taken care of and the credit card machine at the pumps works efficiently. Please remember to use the AWOS frequency to gain access to the terminal building and make yourself at home. Have a great day.

Stopped @ HHW for fuel after hours, easy credit card access for AVGas or Jet A, decided to overnight due to weather. It was after hours, deserted, @ 7PM, a sign on the FBO gave the airport managers name, called him up, nicest guy in the world. Five minutes later, the owner of the local hotel, Ingabee ? came & picked us up, very nice. They have a punch code access lock on the HBO that says something about the AWOS, anyway, just enter 11902 (AWOS freq: 119.02) and you're in for bathrooms and self-service soft drinks. Nice little place. The helicopter EMS pilot on duty was really cute too !

This airport has a nice runway. No services. Left Antlers (80F) for Hugo KHHW for fuel, got there and no fuel. There are also no Notams for the fuel system being out of service. Needless to say I backtracked for nothing. Left Hugo for KHUT Hutchinson KS, and stopped in KMLC Mc Alester for an unfriendly fuel service. I guess a guy in a 172 don't get the same service as a larger aircraft.

We stopped off at HHW yesterday evening after finding ourselves boxed in by weather. Landed about 16:50, topped off, and proceeded to tie down on the first available spot. The airport manager was standing in front of the FBO but made no effort to greet us or to help with the fueling or tie-down. As we finished and began unloading out overnight bag, he locked up the office, got into his truck, and drove off - leaving my wife and I standing outside, literally with bag in hand and nowhere to go! Fortunately we were able to find the guy who pilots the medivac helicopter, and he was able to let us into the building so we could use the phone to call a motel. There is only one motel in town that will pick you up at the airport: Holiday Motel. The manager came to get us in his own vehicle and delivered us back to the airport the next morning - no charge! Nice to see that SOMEONE in Hugo knows something about customer service! We will definitely NOT be using HHW as a stopover spot any time soon.

Nice little airport in the middle of nowhere. It's pretty much deserted but fine for a fuel & bathroom stop.
