This airport is fantastic! I've flown into KLOT several times for weekend stays to visit my family and they are always accommodating! There has never been a ramp/tie-down fee and they even have a self-service fuel station available now too! Bring your own ropes if you plan to tie-down though!

We landed and was taxiing to what looked like the FBO when a full size van with flashing yellow lights BLOCKED the taxiway. I sat there for a minute (radio on) then he took off in a huff across the grass. Come to find out the building we thought was the FBO was actually the college dispatch office. They had a radio, but did not bother to turn it on to tell us we were at the wrong building. We entered the building 4 people were sitting there and not one even looked up to ask how they could help us. They just stared as us like we came from the moon. Typical Chicago attitude. You can tell these folks spend tax dollars. FBO is at the WEST end of the hangers.

I'm newly based here and this airport seems far from going out of business. They have just added a brand new runway (2-20) and are adding to the place in all sorts of ways... new hangars and so on. The people there are great (Chris is one of the best airport managers I've met) and I've had a great time based there. The airport is perfectly positioned if you want to avoid the Class B airspace around the ORD area!!
