Sacramento International is a surprisingly easy stop. The GA ramp has plenty of parking and there are no landing or parking fees. The temporary FBO office is in a trailer while permanent facilities are under construction. Line service is friendly and they have an Acura crew car that you can borrow to pick up or drop off passengers at the airline terminals.

I made a quick stop here to pick up a passenger and start on my trip home to MD in a Cessna 177. I flew in from Lincoln (4 or 5 gallons away if you include taxi fuel) but they had no problem pulling the truck up and topping it off and let me borrow the crew car to go over to the rental car return and pick up my passenger. The price of fuel was a little higher than other places but it was less than I expected and not bad for a larger airport. It was a good stop.

Flew into SMF to drop off a passenger connecting to Southwest. Service was extremely cordial. Lineman guided us in, gave a ride in the golf cart to the temporary building housing the FBO and offered the crew car to take the passenger to the terminal. They expect the permanent facility to be built in a few years. The FBO is not charging single-engine aircraft, but the county does impose a $6.50/night fee.

The FBO at SAC International is now waiving the fees for small single engine aircraft (you just have to pay the airport fee of $6.50 if you stay greater than six hours)! The FBO is incredibly helpful. They also said this will remain in effect until they start to build their new FBO. They also provided all the information and assistance on how to pick up someone from the Terminal. Class act.

OUCH!! What a surprise! The county has given the FBO to a private enterprise. It used to cost $6.50 per night for a single, with moderately expensive 100 LL. Now, the private FBO still collects the $6.50 per night for the county, plus $25.00 per night for the FBO. Also, the fuel has gone up significantly. This will make it more difficult to justify using SMF for my commercial trips, since the parking is so expensive. I usually leave the plane there for 2-3 weeks, when I am on vacation trips. I wonder if they are trying to discourage small planes from using SMF?
