After a quick but thorough checkride required to fly alone, and armed with loads of insight and communication tools for the PHOG Class C, the good people of Maui Aviators helped make an already great vacation an unforgetable experience. Plenty of scenic flight opportunities. The aircraft was in great shape ('72 C172). Highly recommended.

Dual 172SP is now $250/hr. This is a fun way to see the island-- but be prepared to pay! Their rental prices are essentially quoted dry -- there is a $50/hr fuel surcharge, which wasn't quoted until we returned. At the current retail fuel rate, this surcharge covered over 90% of the consumed fuel.

Lots of fun - went up with Tony in a Cessna 152 and flew around the east side of the island - just over an hour (1.2). Got to see all of the properties on that side as well as the scenery and the town of Hana. Much better than driving for three hours... Nice people - good set-up, MUCH better than messing around in overpriced, overbooked helicopters for 20 minutes.

Took a BFR here from Tony while on vacation over Thanksgiving 2007. Tony is great. Reasonably priced too. Then flew a 1.5hr lap of Maui with the family the following day in their new Cessna 172SP.

Went to Maui for Vacation and rented 172SP for sightseeing trip around Maui, Oolelava, Molokini crater, Lanai, and Molokai. After I got checked out by extremely knowledgeable instructor and tour guide Tony, Went back with my wife and friends Taxied onto runway, after we were cleared for takeoff #2 behind a 767, for a 3 hour tour of the Islands. Wow what an experience. Shipwrecks, Movie and Rock Stars Homes, Volcanoes, Beautiful Sea cliffs with 1500 foot waterfalls, and even though it was an experience of a lifetime, it was the most reasonably priced thing I did in Maui (about 700.00 for 4 people on tour), and the folks at Maui aviators were some of the nicest people we met. If you are there, they want you're business, and that's nice for a change! The Owner even printed aerial tour maps and guides with pictures for us. Thanks Maui Aviators.

Echoing the other comments. My wife and I visited Maui for our Honeymoon. We scheduled a 2-hour tour of Maui and other islands and it was more than worth it. Paul went up with us as the instructor since I was not checked out on the aircraft, ($250+ to get checked out and only good for 1 year) and took care of the nav and radios while I flew the 172SP. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and when we return we will be visiting Maui Aviation again :o) CALL AHEAD TO SCHEDULE.. Also call them and let them know you are coming. The airport security is strict and you cannot simply walk up to their hangar (inside the fence).

Don't miss this opportunity if you are in Maui! I flew the Cessna 172SP for 1.9 hours with CFI Paul manning the radios. Most of the flight was at 500 to 1000 feet AGL just on the coastline. The views were spectacular, and Paul's narration was delightfully informative. We circled Maui, overflew Lanai and Molokai, and saw all of the sights. My wife got great digital video from the back seat. The value of the experience far exceeded the price which was certainly reasonable. Put this excursion on your Hawaiian itinerary.

This is what VFR flying is about. Paul was the instructor. We toured for about two hours with me flying and Paul running the radios and keeping a good eye out. It was absolutely the best flying I've ever done. I highly recommend it. I will do it again. Nothing on Maui compared to the flying tour I took at Maui Aviators.

One word: WOW! Recommendation: WAY better than a helo ride. All the comments below: TRUE! Thanks Paul for the tour, it was by far and away the best part of the honeymoon (at least for me!) Lori Dawn and John

All I can say is "ditto" to the other positive comments about them! Visited in July & my brother-in-law and I split time at the wheel while Tony kept us out of trouble and explained the sights. Couldn't have been more accommodating or pleasant. I would highly recommend this as possibly the highlight of your trip. If I ever get back, I will definitely go again! Mahalo!

Very helpful and accommodating folks. You can do a check-out and rent a plane yourself for about $130/hr (C172), but for $50/hr more, you can get an instructor to ride along as a flying tourguide. Given all of the local customs and differences of flying in the islands, I chose that route. I flew while instructor Paul worked the radios and showed the sights. Two or three can fly for the price of 1. We flew the Maui coast, climbed to peek into the Haleakala crater, crossed over Molokini, landed in Lanai, crossed over to Molokai and landed twice there, saw the leper colony, flew along the sea cliffs, overflew a nuclear sub at sea, circled surfacing humpback whales from 1000', and overall had a great flight. Excellent experience! Beautiful scenery! Highly recommended.

For many years I had dreamed of flying the "islands, " but didn't get to it until it was too late -- lost my medical. While planning a November cruise around the islands, I wondered if somewhere there was an FBO who would be understanding and, once more, put me in the left seat. Via "Google" I found Maui Aviators and contacted Jon -- he WAS understanding. On the appointed day, I was greeted by Paul, a great instructor, guide, and nice guy. He handled the radios and I did the flying. We did a Circle Maui County flight and, even though I had not flown in a number of years, Paul suggested that I do some touch-and-goes at Hana and Lanai. Pretty brave, I thought, but he didn't have to touch the controls as I managed to do some fairly pleasing (to me) T & G's. The flight was everything that other pilots have remarked upon -- great! Other than being charged (surprise!) a modest fee for the use of MA's headsets, we were blessed with great weather and a memorable experience flying with Paul.
