An update: There are now two new (lighted) windsocks at U70. One on each end of the runway. It's often best to cross midfield from the west to check the wind, and then turn left for a left pattern to Rwy. 12 or right for a right downwind for Rwy 30. When landing on 12, be alert to sinking air over the river. Locals often land 500 to 1000 feet from the threshold of 12 for this reason.

I'm based at U70. Arnold Aviation is a gem. They are busy flying air taxi operations as well as running an FBO, but they are always willing to help. This is a great airport, and it works well as a launching point for flying the Idaho backcountry. Note: During the summer, it's best to call ahead to get a report on the smoke from nearby and distant wild fires. The smoke can create a no-go situation for VFR flights.
