This is a great over night stop. The trick is getting in and out of the airport, since the gate is locked from 1700 to 0800. Call the FBO in advance to get gate instructions. Once out the gate, it is a short 10-minute walk to a nice, almost new, Hampton Inn and two or three restaurants. 15J has two nice long, wide, runways and a self serve fuel pump. I have stopped here three times. I never saw any traffic in the air or on the ground. I only saw a living person once on departure. The airport was mine!

This is the best over night stop I know of. I stopped here in July 2009. There was no traffic in the air, two long wide runways to choose from and nobody on the ground. The FBO was closed but it had little to offer anyway. I fueled up at the self-serve pump with no one rushing me and set about getting out. I climbed the fence and took a short 10 min. walk to an almost new Hampton Inn, and ate at an almost new Huddle House (one of three close restaurants). I later learned the combination to the gate. If you are looking for a good nights sleep and ok food, I recommend 15j.

It's been a while since I rented from these guys. Getting back into the swing of things, so I called 'em up to put my name on the schedule. Took 10 tries over 2 days before someone answered. I guess they don't have regular business hours--in fact, I'm sure of it. Bill was reluctant to even rent the plane in the first place & seemed very put out that I had even called. Sched. For 10:30AM on a Sat. Later, I realized I would need to push back our departure time. Called back (would anyone answer?). When I told Bill I needed to push back the departure time, he said, "We close up when no one's here." This didn't make sense to me because...*I* would be there? I asked: Can we move the time back or do I need to find somewhere else to rent? The answer was the latter...But why? I did nothing to provoke such rudeness. Heck, I was giving them business! Don't know what's gotten into these folks, but I won't be flying with them anymore. I suggest you do the same and look elsewhere.

Flew in yesterday to look at an airplane that was for sale. We were greeted with hot coffee and clean restrooms. Nice folks at the FBO. Didn't leave with an airplane but it was a nice experience anyway.

For your cross country travelers, don't get your hopes up about this airport if you desire a fancy FBO with coffee, free cookies, and red carpets. There is only one business on the field, and it's IAS. They are primarily a flight school/aircraft rental business, whose owners (Bill and Charlie) do everything from maintenance to scheduling. They leave instructing up to their 2-3 freelancing CFIs. Ian and Trudy (the only two CFIs I've met there) are very nice people, and I would fly with them any day. (Trudy is CFII, and Ian is CFI only; don't know about anyone else.) So, if you're looking for a quiet, south-Georgia airport with cheapest fuel, aircraft rental rates, and instructors, this is the place to come. Or you can pay more by going to Valdosta, Thomasville, Tifton, or Moultrie, and /maybe/ you'll get that red carpet you're looking for.

After the third time in the last year of trying to do business with this FBO, I have given up all hope of them wanting any new customers. I have even gone so far as calling the county Airport Authority and complained to get service. Of about 20+ phone calls to the FBO, Airport Authority, and instructors, I have had maybe 4 returned calls, all from the instructors to cancel scheduled rides. I even made 5 trips out there to arrange a check ride. All I want to do is get checked out for insurance so I can rent their @#&%!#$ Cessna 172, and can't even get that arranged. I had planned to fly for my business 3 different times with them in the last 6 months (12-15 flight hours) but can't get them in sync. Now I find out their IFR Rated 172 is not really IFR after all. I'll be taking my business out of town from now on and suggest that Y'All do to if you can!
