A word of caution: One of our Cirrus aircraft that overnighted on the Columbia Fuel ramp last weekend experienced 5 low-power gunshot pellet divots in the body of the aircraft. A local detective is investigating on-going vandalism at the airport. The FBO says that most issues have been on the "other side" of the field. I do not know yet how many issues if any have happened on the Columbia ramp previously.

No fuel at my nearby base so I made the hasty decision to come here for fuel. My mistake. Not only was Columbia's fuel price the highest I've paid in 20 years of flying, but I totally forgot about the landing fee, which effectively added $0.60/gallon to my fuel cost.

We had a great experience with BLM. Good, friendly service. Crew car was available. I am happy to pay a small landing fee to have a 7, 000 foot GA runway in central Jersey. There aren't too many good airports in this area that have not been converted to townhomes!

Thanks for the warnings. I think I will go into Tom's River where the fuel is cheap and there is no landing fee. My turboprop will be thirstier by the time I get there so no use in wasting money.

Reviewed previous comments made before flying into BLM on business wondering what to expect. Great service by Columbia! Line directed me to tie-downs and fueled my a/c quickly. Both Ruthie and Darleen greeted us with a smile and inquired if we needed a car or lodging. FBO first rate with Pilot/Wx room. Yes, there is a landing fee ($8.50) but it goes to the owner--not Columbia. First night parking/ramp waived with fuel purchase (either FS or SS). Thanks Ruthie/Darleen for an enjoyable visit!

I can't say enough good things about the service and friendly staff at Columbia. I travel to the area on business and often have to land, tie-down, and run to a meeting. Every time I have visited Columbia, I've been greeted with a smile, provided the courtesy car, fueled while I was taking care of business. Both Ruthie and Darleen are great! Highly recommend this FBO to all GA pilots.

THIS IS A GOOD AIRPORT TO AVOID IF POSSIBLE. There is a landing fee ($18), steep ramp fees ($60/night), a "take it or leave it" attitude, and minimal services. Local transportation, food, and lodging are also issues unless you have made your own arrangements.

Nice facility and profession staff and service but landing fee is $18 for hi-performanace singles (Malibu, Mirage, TBM, etc.).

From Randy Garrett on 18-Apr-2006
A clarification, since I am one of the complainers below. Evidentally the airport is privately owned. The airport owner is the one charging the fee, NOT the FBO. Columbia has to collect the fee for the owner, but this is not their doing. While I do find the landing fee quite annoying, I have been to BLM 6 - 8 times for business and only once encountered a somewhat rude receptionist. The remaining times, the employees have been very friendly and helpful.

Hate to add to the chorus of landing fee complaints below, but feel I must warn the unsuspecting. Went to lunch at the "Runway 34" restaurant on the field this weekend and upon return to the plane was promptly cornered by a lineman in a golf cart. He drove me to the office where I was promptly relieved of $11 ($8.50 landing fee and $2.50 ground handling fee). The unapologetic clerk advised that she'd waive the $2.50 if I bought fuel. This was conveyed with a straight face. Very unfortunate for the restaurant as the food was great. In fairness, they do offer complimentary pop corn for your $11.

From Rick Stehr on 10-Nov-2005
I fly into KBLM quite a bit lately. The $8.50 landing fee, although a bit unusual for a GA airport, is really not that unreasonable. They are always friendly and take care of your needs. Fuel is comparable to other airports in the area (actually a couple cents less than my home base at KFRG). As long as the service (and prices) remain in-check, I (we) will continue to use Columbia & BLM.
