Due to a family emergency, I had the opportunity to try Landmark at CHO once again. I must echo the comments that the line guys are superb. They were very helpful, helped tie down the airplane, brought the rental car out, etc. Also I must commend the FBO for having the rental car arranged as requested. Unfortunately, problems similar to last visit persisted. Most importantly, although I faxed AND asked on checking for full refueling, I once again arrived to the airport without the plane being fueled. When I was ready to go, the fuel truck was in maintenance, adding to the delay. This was resolved, and I was on my way with about a 20-minute delay, but geez, guys. The staff on duty was apologetic, and waived a night's parking for the inconvenience. I appreciate the effort to make up for the oversight, but remain concerned at the difficulties I seem to face on my visits to Landmark at CHO.

Wanted to fly to CHO to visit next week for four nights . . . I called there first and was told it would be $25 per night for tie down!!! Are you kidding me? But they would wave the additional $10 handling fee if I bought 10 gallons of fuel (which costs over $1/gallon more than other nearby airports) . . . What a deal.

Very good service here today. Gas isn't cheap but facilities are very nice. Main FBO no longer sells VFR sectionals (!) but flight school in hangar next door does. Guy there was very helpful.

Stopped here for a few hours. Got marshaled and ramped promptly. They even put up safety cones around my plane. Excellent facility and no charge for the parking. Good southern hospitality.

I was happy to read the April 2007 postings. Maybe it means that comments on this board actually have some impact! I am sure I will have occasion to use CHO in the future, and look forward to the improved service. I must say, however, that the folks over at LKU make it an attractive overnight for my visits to the Charlottesville area.

I'm a base customer at Charlottesville flying a GA single out of CHO/Landmark 1-2 times each week. Landmark is a top-notch facility providing fuel, maintenance and hangar facilities. Their maintenance team has done an excellent job to date working on my plane and I recommend them highly. Fuel is a bit on the expensive side but the facilities are commensurate. Sandwiches are available inside the main airport terminal a five-minute walk or shuttle van ride from Landmark. I walk the 200 yards out to my plane multiple times each week without difficulty. I can't believe someone previously complained about walking outdoors in beautiful South West Virginia. Line service will give you a ride out to your plane when asked. Tie down spots are limited you might be chalked overnight unless its really windy out. On the whole, I've really enjoyed being based here and recommend Landmark and the airport highly as a base and for transient services.

We flew into CHO for the first time this Saturday with some small concern based on the comments posted in the past year. If all previous ratings are true, Landmark has undergone major changes. The reception on the flight line was quick (at a run) and professional. The tanks were topped off before we finished checking in at the counter. Everything inside the FBO was clean and well maintained. Upon checkout the following day I was told the parking fee was waived with the fuel purchase. Current price was about 4.23 for Avgas, not the highest I've paid in the last month. It is true that the GA planes get parked well away from the office - probably 600' or so, but the walk was no big deal. All in all a good experience.

Was at KCHO on October 14-15. Could not have felt less welcomed. The most significant issues: 1) Although top-off order was placed on arrival, plane had not been fueled when departing. (Had to wait 20 minutes for fueling and transaction. Clerk was non-plussed by this, did not offer even an apology.) 2) Plane was parked far from terminal. (200 yards) No assistance to plane was offered. 3) No chocks available. Luckily had my own. 4) Plane NOT TIED DOWN OVERNIGHT!!! 5) $12 fee regardless of fuel purchased (and regardless of no tie-down.) Landmark clearly does not want piston-single business. Why don't they just stop selling 100LL?

Previous ramp construction is now complete. Very attractive and comfortable FBO. Staff was very accommodative of my needs, including making arrangements for me to receive a conference call lasting several hours. For low and slow climbers on departure, be wary of mountains due west of KCHO.

Landed here on 7/16 hoping to get a decent dinner in town but crew cars were out so splurged on a string cheese and soda in the snack shop in the terminal and headed elsewhere. FBO parking is torn up due to construction. Tower couldn't be nicer and desk was apologetic.

For a visit to Charlottesville, we flew into KCHO on Saturday and departed on Monday. Landmark was perfectly accomodating and efficient (from shutdown to driving the rental out the gate was about 20 minutes), though priced on the high side. There was no waiver on the $12/night parking with our purchase of 35 gallons of 100LL (at $4.95/gal). My conclusion -- perfectly OK if you are visiting Charlottesville, but if just transiting the area I'd look elsewhere for gas and a sandwich.

During the past couple of all day visits to CHO, there has been a remarkable improvement in the FBO facilities. The pilot lounge has new recliners and the bug problem seems to be corrected. The restrooms are much better too. The service is, as it's always been, still very good, but now I don't dread having to spend more than a couple of hours at the airport.

Someone must have cleaned the bathrooms, they were nice. I got weathered in CHO for a night and the young lady (Alyssa?) at the desk took care of a room for me, as well as a ride to the hotel when the shuttle was slow. Saved me from another day on the rental car. Parking Fees- $12.00, Service- Priceless.

Personnel very friendly and helpful. I have been there many times. Crew car available frequently. Car rental is easy. Bathroom was filthy !!! and there was no soap. Crew that moved the airplane significantly scratched the wheel pant! Overall, though, a good experience.

We've been visiting Landmark at CHO pretty regularly for the past year and a half. Rich, the line supervisor and most of the other line guys have been very helpful and courteous. The CSR's are all very friendly and helpful. We all have some issues and Landmark employee's don't mind discussing them in front of customers, even though it may not be the most professional thing to do. There has been a bad problem with bugs in the FBO facility. The pilot's lounge is pretty bad with them and the recliners have been broken for as long as I can remember. The restroom's are pretty filthy. Lots of dead bugs there too. Wireless internet is available, as well as 2 crew cars. Plenty of places to go for a bite within a 10 minute drive. The people there are great, but it is a typical ratty Piedmont facility.

Instead of flying your single engine into CHO where they charge $12 ramp fee and top dollar for gas and the rental car companies are forced to add high "airport fees" to the rental prices, I suggest you try flying into Eagles Nest (W13) in Waynesboro...nice folks, lower prices for fuel and rental cars. Most of my business is at the University and the difference in drive time from Waynesboro as opposed to CHO is only about 15 minutes since CHO is ten miles out RT 29 which is nothing but red lights. All in all, W13 was a MUCH better experience.

I was charged a $12.00 overnight fee the first night even after purchasing fuel. I asked the attendant what I would have been charged if I hadn't purchased fuel. $12.00 was the answer. Therefore, expect a $12.00 charge with or without fuel purchase.

The service at the FBO was average at best. Employees seemed uninterested and the facility was filthy. This place has great potential if you could build a fire under the workers there. The line crew also failed to reconnect our nose gear after towing the aircraft which is a major oversight in my view.
