Built brand new FBO, no more trailer bathrooms out back! In fact, now there are even showers in the bathrooms! Weather, TV's, leather couches, fire pit, picnic tables (watch out for pine sap on the seats if they are still under the trees), and a very friendly accomodating FBO manager Ralph. Great airport, beautiful terrain, highly recommended.

Nice, long runway and plenty of ramp space. When we arrived the field was deserted, but a call to Welikit got a ride into town to pick up our rental car from them.

I called ahead, and received information on car rental and hotel. Arriving at 7:30 on Fri evening the airport was unattended as expected. Bring your own tie down ropes. The restroom is in a mobile home outside the gate and to the left, enter through the back door. The self serve gas was easy to use. Departure was anemic, as expected for a 7300' density altitude. The approach to runway 8 is mostly clear from the west. Runway 8 starts out downhill, rises a bit, then continues downhill. There are mountains and trees to the east. When I left the density altitude was 7300 ft, and my climb was only 500fpm. I headed northeast after departing rwy 8 to avoid rising terrain.

Stopped by on a Sunday and the field was unattended but everything was open and in process of being refurbished. Great stop if you need fuel before visiting Mt Rushmore. Had fun departing in a Cherokee 140 at 8000 ft density altitude. Managed to get up to 14, 500 on the way to Seattle so it can be done!

We stopped for fuel here on the way from California to Oshkosh. Ralph met us at the airplane as I pulled mixture to shutoff. We had no intention of staying overnight, but after talking with Ralph, he set us up with a hotel (pilot discount) and a rental car and a recommended driving tour. Great airport and a great location. Ralph is the best!

My family and I flew into CUT for a long weekend in the black hills. Custer is centrally located and a much better option than RAP, in my opinion. Additionally, Ralph (the CUT airport manager) is one of the nicest people you will meet. He assisted in fueling and tying-down the plane and advising us on the local sights. Highly recommended.

Jet A price is as advertised, however this is the slowest pump I have ever used. No crew car and appears to be mostly unattended. The credit card reader maxes out at $750 but the pump is so slow that our transaction timed out after 100 gallons. Bring your lunch and eat it while you are fueling the plane; you'll have plenty of time!

Flew in with another couple in September. What a great airport! The FBO manager helped us park and tie down the aircraft (we forgot our ropes). Spent a wonderful week in the Black Hills. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Devil's Tower, Custer State Park and more. Mountain note: Significant slope. Think about landing west and taking off east (wind permitting).

Very convenient for Black Hills sightseeing and recreation destinations. This is a low traffic airport with reasonable fuel prices, and no fees for my Mooney. Also had good rental car service from Murner: he was there within ten minutes of my call--on a Sunday when the dealership is closed. Custer town is 2 miles away with plenty of places to stay and eat. Airport manager was quite friendly too.

Quiet well-run little airport, has fire fighting based here (and a forest fire 5 miles away the day I arrived!). Mgr was organized and helpfully directed us to a Murner Chevrolet rental car. Murner was also good. 5 min wait and car appeared. Fair rate. Fuel SS was no problem, mgr again helpful. Closest to Mt Rushmore. Custer is a small town with plentiful average motels. This is more of a comment on the state of things in this country than KCUT: why why why all the %#$ security at these small airports? Caught a smidge of flak over bringing in the car to load up our 200lbs of bags rather than dragging them across a large ramp. The security measures seem ridiculous to me! I have an airplane, I have documentation, and I just want to get my compact car near the airplane!
