I had this airport in my flight plan on returning from Denver, but after seeing the fuel prices are at least $1 per gallon more than other area airports (OTM), I figure that Des Moines does NOT want small GA traffic. I'll go elsewhere.

I had an excellent experience at SFS on my last visit; Terri at the front counter was very helpful as well as friendly and accommodating. I will say that the Signature chain might be a little higher than the competition but, considering the fact that the overhead and the cost of some of the perks that we ALL enjoy while at any FBO (Courtesy vehicle, internet access, coffee, popcorn, etc) can get pricey. Also I have noticed that the SFS group is working on becoming more competitive in its fuel prices, I think they have listened to the customer, check prices before your next visit.

Yes, it's pricey and hopefully they will get a little more reasonable. But, I usually try to choose Signature at various airports because they are usually First Class operations and Des Moines is no different. From Sean and his brother (sorry, forgot his name) who took care of us on arrival...To Paul who helped Sean and Brother via phone (they are fairly new) and followed up with me next day to make sure I was happy...To Carmen who helped with my Hertz rental (made sure I didn't have to go stand in 10-person deep line at counter)...To Terri who closed out everything and went WAY out of her way to make sure I was pleased with the service and charges before we departed. Great service all the way around. Thanks!

Isn't it great to be able to charge what ever you want for fuel? Rip off.

Made a stop for fuel and weather update, Signature was the closest FBO to where I landed but I wish I had taxied a little...I took ten minutes to look at the weather and decide my next leg but by that time the line guys had disappeared. It then took about 40 minutes to get 14 gallons put on. Apparently they have the contract to fuel the commercial service in Des Moines. Keep that in mind if you stop in on a weather day like I did with flights diverting left and right. Not worth the extra cost on fuel, especially when compared to the service at other Signatures.
