Very low ceilings necessitated a stop in northern Iowa, the nearest and safest being KEFW, Jefferson Municipal Airport. Also called Don Monthei Airfield, it has a 4000 ft. Lighted, concrete runway; GPS and NDB instrument approaches; an FBO; and a courtesy car. No one about on a Sunday afternoon but refueling was easy and the air-conditioned office waiting lounge was open. Jerry, who operates Stott's Aerial Spraying Service came by, greeted us, gave us the keys to the courtesy car, and suggested options for lodging and restaurants. Ryan, his son, also showed up with lots of local knowledge about agricultural spraying and aeronautical history of the area. Thanks to Ryan for his service flying F-16s for the Air National Guard. Although we stayed at the adjacent hotel and ate well at Lucky's Restaurant, we resisted the charms of the Wild Rose Casino.
