Made the trip down from Canada and spent the weekend in Rutherfordton visiting family and taking them sightseeing around the area. We felt right at home with our PA28 at Leading Edge. We'll be back! Thanks again for everything.

Fuel stop on Sunday, called ahead to let them know and Ed was there to meet us and took very good care of us. Excellent airport and excellent service. Will stop every chance we get. Good fuel price too.

Great airport - 57A Cafe is a great place for a $100 hamburger. However, I've had two separate fueling incidents of which other pilots should be made aware. One involved not grounding the aircraft prior to fueling. The other occurred yesterday. After pulling up to the pump, the attendant approached the aircraft with fuel nozzle in hand ready to pump fuel WITH THE ENGINE STILL RUNNING! I had to wave him off. Before I managed to get my feet on the ground he already had the fuel cap off and was pumping fuel. The aircraft was NOT grounded - I had to ground it myself. Additionally, he dispensed too much fuel into the left tank by about 5 gallons. Suffice to say; be sure to supervise all fueling operations. Don't leave it to the attendant while devouring your $100 hamburger (best in the area, by the way).

Stopped in to FQD both directions to and From ABY 6-16-08 and 6-24-08 for fuel. Great little airport with excellent runway and ramp areas. We were fueled quickly each time and offered the airport vehicle to grab a bite to eat as the on field restaurant had closed for the day on our trip south. Very pretty area. We will surely stop again if in the area.

They have a great staff at Leading Edge, Ed Robinson in particular. On September 1, 2007, I diverted to this airport due to weather. I was on a cross-country flight from UKF to TOC. When I encountered decreasing visibility on my VFR flight, I landed at FQD to wait for better conditions. I was en route to join my family in North Georgia for Labor Day Weekend. After several hours, it did not appear that weather conditions would improve, so I began looking for a rental car to drive to Georgia. Unfortunately, with it being Labor Day weekend and Saturday afternoon, we were unable to secure a rental car. At that point, Ed offered his vehicle for me to drive to meet up with my family. With little more than a handshake, he handed me the keys and allowed me to carry on to my destination. On Monday, I returned to the airport with his van and was able to fly back to UKF. It was refreshing to see someone go above and beyond their job description to assist a pilot in need.

Experienced engine failure 35 miles north of the field on Nov 7th. The engine maintained enough power to get over the field then quit completely. The 'engine out' announcement on Unicom was heard and acknowledged by the flight school and Runway 1 was cleared for my very first 'for real' power off landing in nearly 4000 hours of logged time. Leading Edge Aviation came to the rescue immediately with a tractor to tow my immobile aircraft off the runway and over to the "Plane Werks" maintenance facility where the damage was assessed by the chief mechanic. I was then offered to join the hangar staff for lunch. Believe me this was the best airport for this to happen. These folks were very supportive and helpful one couldn't possibly ask for more. Not to mention there was plenty of runway and the facilities were excellent as well. One staff member even drove me over to Ashville (KASH) for the airline trip back home.

Quick turn around, friendly folks, nice friendly watchdog! Would stop here again anytime.

Stopped in on 10/15/07 on my way to TX in an R-22. This is an absolute gem of an airport. Greg met me with the fuel truck and a friendly attitude. This will be a regular stop for me whenever I'm in the area. Didn't get to eat at the cafe as in wasn't opened yet.

Thanks to Greg Turner and the folks at Leading Edge Aviation for their hospitality during my recent visit to family in the area. This is a great place to stop at if you are passing thru or visiting. Also enjoyed a lunch at the 57 Alpha Cafe, don't miss it!

I was flying into North Carolina from Texas and had to make a fuel stop before going onto Chapel Hill. I have never flown into Rutherford before, and did not know what to expect. I was highly impressed with the service (7pm local time) and would recommend the stop to anyone needing fuel, service, or other. The service was prompt and courteous and they had me on my way in a short period of time with no hassle. Thanks for the pleasant experience.

Visited FQD on March 24th with my wife after a bumpy trip south over the Appalachians from Ohio. I found the staff to be extremely helpful and friendly - my engine had barely shut down before the ramp attendant was out with a friendly "Hello" and was refueling my aircraft. Since we were hungry, and 57Alpha was closed, he generously offered the use of the airport courtesy car for a trip into town for food. Fuel was reasonable, and the service and facilities were excellent! Make sure you say "Hi" to Maggie the airport dog when you're there.

Nice airport - and great people, felt very welcomed, excellent facility, very clean. Just dropped the plane off at the gas pump - they did the rest and I left for an overnight - I really recommend a visit - oh don't forget to pet Maggie. Arrived in low IMC - Great localizer approach, left with 700' light rain - Easy instrument departure if you’re heading south.

This is a very nice airport that also has a terrific, modern lounge. Really good facilities, including a nice cafe for lunch. Good airport.

From John Schumacher on 10-Jul-2006
Stopped at FQD for day trip to drop off some friends. We were able to get drinks, order lunch, have the airplane refueled, and pet the local airport dog, Maggie, all within 2 hours. The folks at Leading Edge are fast and courteous, and the flying stories in the lounge are as tall as ever. A very nice stop in NC.

Stopped overnight to visit family who had recently moved to the small town of Rutherfordton, NC. Did a little AirNav research to find that, surprisingly, Rutherfordton had an airport but more surprising was the scope of facilities and the service available at FQD. Greg and the gang were ready, willing and able to take care of us. Friendly, efficient, reasonably priced. I look forward to our next visit.

From Brett Rauenzahn on 18-Mar-2006
Wow, what a price for 100LL. Don't see anything like 3.43/gal in many places these days. Service was excellent, the airport folks were very welcoming and helped us out with whatever we needed. Have to get clearance on the ground from Raleigh radio, other than that, will be back again.

From S King on 17-Mar-2006
Greg and team are super people. Flew in from SRQ in my SR22 for a couple days and they had my rental car on the way to the plane as soon as I taxied in. Topped off for me and made sure everything was just right. A great little FBO with first class people.
