We stop here several times a year while flying from MN to CO for fuel. The runway is always in good shape, cheap fuel, bathroom and snacks to purchase. On our last trip my daughter left her jacket in the office. The manager, Ed, promptly mailed it to us in CO. Thank you!

Terrific airport, very well run city owned FBO, friendly, clean and everything you need in one spot. Not to mention a scenic area with the wonderful town of Hot Springs just a short courtesy car ride away...And the courtesy car was a nice clean four wheel drive vehicle that didn't leave you wondering if it would strand you somewhere!

Flew to Hot Springs for a couple of days of sight seeing. Made arrangements with Ed for a rental car and hangar space. We wanted to leave early Sunday morning so Ed met us at 6:00am to get our planes out of the hangar. Great service!

Visited after the 2017 solar eclipse for fuel and an overnight. Ed took great care of us and let us use the car overnight to see Wind Cave Natl. Park. Very friendly service and award-winning grass runway! A great stop when in the Black Hills - thank you Ed!

From Daniel Appel on 23-Aug-2017

Great little airport. We love the grass strip being we fly a Husky. Fuel prices are low and service is great. Ed even gave us a ride back to the airport on his way to work. We will always stop in when we are in the area.

This is a great little airport. The Manager (Ed) was very helpful and friendly, and arranged a car for us. Nice tie downs and facilities, and fairly priced fuel. We came to the Black Hills during the Sturgis rally and this end of the 'Hills was much quieter than Rapid.

Hot Springs has become my regular fuel stop on northbound trips from the Front Range. The wide grass crosswind runway is superbly maintained and a true safety feature: I know that even with changing wind conditions I will be able to get my 180 on the ground in one piece. Courtesy cars make getting into town for lunch or a hotel easy. Ed (the manager) keeps dog treats handy, which my passengers love. Snacks and coffee are available in the pilot lounge for a reasonable charge.

First time and will go out of my way to return. Fantastic fuel stop!

From Dick Welsh on 30-Jul-2017

Great airport. Everyone was helpful and they rented us the courtesy car (slightly hail damaged) for a low rate for two days while golfing and sightseeing.

Stopped here twice on a trip to Yellowstone. What a great little old school stop with some great hospitality. Ed is a true gentleman and makes the stop worth it. Great job, slice of Americana.

Great 2 day stop at Hot Springs to go see Mount Rushmore and Custer Park. Ed the airport manager was super nice and let us rent the airport econoline van that we named rolling thunder.

From Jeff Dennis on 28-Jun-2017

The Hot Springs airport (HSR) and management are awesome! After flying in from a long trip, Ed always has a car ready for us. This is our third year returning to Hot Springs and we highly recommend other pilots do the same. They have spacious new hangers and a their runways are very well maintained. This airport has wonderful service and great hospitality!

My wife and I traveling around the good ole USA were very fortunate to stop by Hot Springs airport. Ed Jenson the airport Manager was very helpful and friendly. He offered us the airport crew van (cool Scooby doo type) for a very reasonable rate. We were able to enjoy the Hot Springs area in comfort. We will definitely be back to KHSR and I will recommend it to fellow pilots. And he offered us a piece of home made coffee cake! Thanks Ed!

Got chased in to KHSR by weather while headed to KRAP. What a GREAT accident! Ed Jensen makes you feel like it's your home airport! Borrowed the airport car overnight for a reasonable rate and drove up to see Mt Rushmore at night. Worth the drive. Ed gave us directions and suggestions for our overnight stay in Hot Springs. He helped us chain down our C-172 for the night. (Be sure to put your chains back in the coffee can and leave them by the front door when you leave.) I will definitely PLAN a stop at KHSR on my next trip out west.

I stopped for fuel at HSR on my way to Tahoe and experienced the welcome of Ed Jensen. Ed made sure I got properly fueled and invited me in for their Friday morning pilots get together and a breakfast treat. Great people at HSR. I stopped again on my way back a week later. Nice grass runway and paved runway. My RV-8 liked the grass.

Our airport service went way beyond normal expectations. Ed arranged car rental for us at a reasonable rate. He gave us fantastic tourism information and tips, as well as great suggestions for places to eat. This is a well run airport that is clean, has good fuel prices, and is a great location if anyone is interested in stopping in the Black Hills area! Ed rocks!

From Don Dolce on 25-Sep-2016

Ed Jensen was very accommodating in arranging for a car during our visit and assisted us with parking the aircraft when we arrived. He was very helpful and knowledgeable of places to visit in the area and provided helpful information. The facilities were clean and neat and we had an excellent overall experience.

Stopped in for fuel on 31-August on our way to northern Montana for an elk hunt. Fuel was as advertised, Ed was friendly and kept my 81 year old dad entertained, and met some other wonderful pilots based at KHSR while stretching our legs. Will stop back by on my return trip next week!

This was the second time I stopped at Hot Springs. On Monday on the way to the West Coast we got to meet the airport dog that was very friendly. He takes after the staff. Greets you with a happy face to all the transient pilots and crew. Today on the return to Michigan, we got fresh sweet rolls baked locally. What a treat! We were told this happens every first Friday of the month! The self-serve works great with the exception if you need more than 110 gallons it will make you process your credit card twice. Most likely not a problem unless you fly a thirsty plane like ours. Overall, a great fuel stop. We will return to explore the town on one of future trips to the west coast to visit our grandchild.

From L Godlevsky on 22-Aug-2016

Hot Springs is a great fuel stop for our numerous trips from Colorado to North Dakota, easy in and out, best fuel prices in the area with well maintained equipment and facilities. Great hospitality from the manager with a nice touch of treats for our two dogs!

From Steven Lagergren on 14-Aug-2016

Arrived Friday 8/12/2016 evening & left Sunday just before noon. Runway is newly paved and perfect! Courtesy car/rental from Ed (airport manager) 605-890-6479 worked out great for the four of us. The fuel area is simple and all in order, the fuel card machine/ area is under a small hood where it should be to stay protected & so you can read it in full sun light. Hot Springs is just the right amount of town for a simple easy weekend away from it all. The air is cool and dry even on those seemingly hot days in August. We stayed at the USA hotel, and had a good experience. Only compliant is that we didn't see any Elk in the Custer area.

Nice clean airport with Ed, the friendly manager. Rented nice SUV airport car $40 overnight and toured Custer and local Mammoth Digs. Neat old town. Stayed at older but very nice and clean Hills Inn $94. Will go back to explore the river walk trail and town history.

Great place to stay overnight. Friendly staff and a nice airport.

From Pete Van Helden on 03-Jul-2016

This is a great fuel stop! Low priced SS fuel and after hours access to the terminal building. Clean restrooms and snacks/drinks available for purchase.

For two consecutive years my wife and I have visited Hot Springs, SD for the Indian Festivals.  On both trips we landed at Hot Springs Municipal airport, KHSR.  I want to compliment the fantastic service we received from Ed Jenson.  He is not only a great guy, but he takes care of business!  The hangars are spacious and clean, and our Cessna was well taken care of.  The hospitality of Ed and the Hot Springs airport community is top rated by us! We highly recommend Hot Springs/KHSR for a place to visit. Thanks again Ed, we enjoyed it bubba.
