Brand new fueling facility (Fuel Master) for both 100LL and JetA. New filter apparatus. Caution: ramp near pumps are sloped, so lock your brakes or chock the tires. Runway slopes up to the east, right pattern on 8. Suggest call Wells City Hall to verify availability.

Arrived LWL the afternoon of 7/15/08, 15 knot almost direct crooswind. Very turbulent and a challenge but the nice wide runway helped. As "Old Bob" Siegfried, (I know him and he goes by "Old Bob") said, the ammenities aren't great, but are there, including a phone to call FSS. The fuel price is definitely worth the stop in the event it isn't too far out of the way. The fuel system worked good but the ground wire attachment end was broken. An ASOS there would be a good idea. Winds broadcast at Elko to the West, and at Wendover to the East, were far different than at LWL.

Stopped on June 26th for the cheap fuel! $4.25 as advertised. Place was totally deserted and looked forlorn. The only facilities are in a small line shack about fifty yards across the ramp from the fuel pump. A single toilet and not the cleanest I have seen, but when ya gotta go, ya gotta go!

Purchased 69 gallons of 100LL 24th April and fortunately no contamination, fuel looked clean. Local resident reported he had recently observed work being performed on the pumps, perhaps that cleared up the contamination noted previously. Great field, friendly folks.

Runway is in great condition. Fuel is cheap, but I think it may be old or have a little water. I drained an abnormal amount of sediment/water after refueling.

Nice runway but radio operator had gone to town and were unable to tell us they were working on the pumps so no fuel today. Should be all fixed by now... 'Thanks anyway and 'Next time'.

Airport caretaker Howard is now gone. However, Wells airport now (6/20/07) has 24/7 credit card service for 100LL avgas. Due to fuel price increases 100LL is now $3.95 per gallon. Still lower than most anyplace else these days.

I called today (9/22/06) for fuel prices & they told me the airport is closed for runway repaving ... Expect to be open again mid October. Call or check w/FSS before making it your destination.

Howard is great. They give a $0.05 discount for cash. The pump is not self-serve but Howard lives on site and manages the pump from sunset to sunrise. They also have a nice gravel crosswind runway. No food however.

This is a good stop, and the price can't be beat compared to Elko or Ely, so if you're crossing eastern Nevada, this is a good choice for a stop. Howard is a terrific guy to visit with, and has some interesting projects underway there too.

With fuel prices 20% lower than Elko, Wells is worth a stop. Howard was at the pump waiting for us, after he provided wind advisories upon our initial call over CTAF. He even offered to drive us into town to grab a bite of lunch. Nothing fancy about the airport, but the service was fast and friendly.

Remember to be there during regular FBO office hours or call ahead. Fuel is not self serve but the help was great and very accommodating.
