Started flying at MTN recently. Great Airport. Controllers are friendly. Asked for a tower tour on July 4th and was approved. Spent nice morning learning from the 2 very friendly Retired Navy Controllers who were eager to share their insights. Thanks guys! S. Ehrlich (Rented N27GS Arrow)

Flew into MTN to spend the day in Baltimore. Controllers were pleasant. Lineman was on the ramp waiting to direct me to parking. Reserved rental car was ready to go. Parking for my piston single was $15 for 24 hours, with or without fuel. Fuel was $5.40 self, $5.60 full - compare to $8+ at BWI. MTN is relatively inexpensive, quiet, outside the ADIZ and close to downtown.

This place worked perfectly for our needs. Service's were all done in a timely manner. Why would anyone go to BWI when this place is here. Dale was a friendly lineman and made our experience great here. Use Barry Goldberg if you need transportation...great guy and very fair prices for both pax & crew. Thanks everyone.

On an Angel Flight Mission. Tower personnel seem to be very hostile towards transient traffic. Have been into MTN many times and their attitude is always confrontational! I don't know what the problem is or how to correct it. My suggestion is to clean house and start anew with employees that appreciate that they are a service commodity and are mandated to service their constituents...Just like our elected people who have forgotten that they are working for us... Frustration causes me to vent.... "I despise a surly attitude".. Quote from Lonesome Dove3.....

When you travel into Martin State Airport (KMTN) make sure that you have a rental car if you have to go into the city. I have an appointment with a Dr. from Johns Hopkins about a potential medical problem and Martin State Airport will not allow me use of a car for my appointment nor will they drive me to my appointment 10.51 miles away. Their policy is apparently 9 miles. So, if you are utilizing this airport make sure that you don't have to travel any further than 9 miles. I am a Citation Shares owner and will be passing along my negative comments about this facility.

It's hit or miss at MTN (CE-650)! Sometimes we get great service and other times its hell in the North East. FBO is old and aged, all operations are ran by the city, no contract fuel or competition, slow service, REALLY bad car rental agreements...The list could go on. If you catch 'em on the right day and hour you'll have a good experience, but don't count on it. I will say one tower lady and select Customer relation’s gals are good.

I flew up to KMTN to visit my son over the weekend of Sept 22 to 24. There FBO was very friendly and helpful. Line crew were very good. It was a pleasant stay. I will be glad to land and stay at KMTN again.

I landed there today to drop a passenger off. Got fueled within 10 minutes and was greeted by a friendly lady at the counter. Great service. Will visit again. (It beats the high costs to land at BWI)

Agree about the Tower Controllers (except for the woman - she is kind and considerate). Last week, was inbound IFR from Westminster, called 12-miles out, again at 9-miles out; neither call acknowledged. Tower was too busy having a personal conversation with an experimental pilot about currency. Finally broke-in and called on 3-mile final and was berated by the Tower Controller for a late call. After landing, was told by other pilots this particular Tower Controller does this all the time and treats everybody equally nasty. Was also told by another pilot in the pattern she heard all my radio calls very clearly. What a way to be "welcomed" to Baltimore - think my company will use BWI from now on. Goodbye Martin State; you can't get it right.

Agree with the last post. I am a Student Pilot, started training at MTN and quit because of the negative attitude of the airport, controllers, and FBO toward students and flight training. Despite the best efforts of the flight schools, nothing changes - fuel takes upwards of 35 minutes (even when I was the ONLY call) to get, controllers demanded to know the "reason" for my training go-around (read the AIM/Controller Handbook - stop belittling/degrading us), the ATIS is unintelligible at times, the T-hangers are in miserable shape and smell of urine (from the line staff), and the FBO facilities are abysmal (dirty bathrooms, no weather/planning room to speak of, a crowded "coffee station" if you call it that, and a malice staff). Compared to other Class "D" airports (which encourage flight training, makes student pilots feel welcome and helps us when we're "frazzled), such as Lancaster, Martin's attitude drives away more people than it attracts.

NO discount for Angel Flight.

They refused to work on our 1977 Cessna 401 because of age.

Landed and taxied to transient parking on a cold blustery day. I struggled with missing/inadequate tie down ropes as the line crew stood outside the line trailer. I still had to pay $14.00 for tie down services for less than 3 hour stay. It must be George Bush's fault. He must be in cohoots with the new Democratic Gov. O'Malley!!!

From Chris DiPaola on 05-Nov-2006
Flew in on 11/4/06 in a C-172 and stayed overnight in Baltimore. I had a great experience and was only charged $14 for the tie down and NO LANDING FEES! Service was very friendly. Airport is very convenient to downtown Baltimore area.

From Harry Copperman on 04-Aug-2006
Much better and less expensive alternative than BWI if you are going into Baltimore. The city is a $26 dollar, 25-30 minute cab ride. Service was fine. $29 landing fee despite buying $500 worth of fuel seemed excessive but still cheaper than BWI.

From Helen Woods on 14-May-2006
Terrible service. I flew to MTN to assist at an airport festival at their request. Upon landing, I asked the lineman about fuel. He told me I'd need to go inside for that. He then left without helping me tie down. No wonder since the ropes in the space he assigned me were sitting in mud! I went inside only to find that there was a SS pump outside for 20 cents less. I told the desk lady that I planned to fuel before leaving. She asked for my credit card. I asked why and she said "just standard procedure." I refused and was told that they really needed my card to assess an undisclosed landing fee, this despite that fact that I planned to buy over $100 of fuel from them, and was asked by the airport to be there! After some discussion and my refusal to pay, they finally waved the fee. A lineman who had no idea what the FBO’s number was to call for a return ride gave me a lift across the street to the festival.

From Michael Junod on 28-Dec-2005
Some of the best service I have experienced. My passenger was not sure where to go. The FBO helped pick her bags up from her car and delivered her and her bags planeside and did the reverse upon return. ATC was very friendly and helpful as opposed to earlier reports. Definitely a first class experience without a first class price.

From Thomas Berner on 30-Sep-2005
First airport I have been to that did NOT discount fuel for Angel Flights (explanation: they waive parking fee of $13 which is not applicable if staying less than one hour).
