We brought our B-25 "Pacific Prowler" to Steamboat Springs for their Labor Day weekend Airshow. This had to be one of the best events we have ever attended. We were there several days before the event started and they bent over backwards to make sure we had everything we needed. If fact eveywhere we went in Steamboat the people were very kind and generous. This airport, and the folks there, is how aviation should be.

This is a nice FBO; the $5 ramp fee is offset by the location of the airport and the low fuel cost. Don't leave your plane door open though, they have a ramp cat that has been on several flights over the years.

You must also pay a $10 ramp fee to get the lowest fuel prices reported by the FBO, otherwise it is $.25 per gallon more.

We received excellent service at SBS. We brought our bicycles in the Bonanza for local transportation but the FBO offered us the courtesy SUV to get our bags to the bed and breakfast. I highly recommend the Mariposa B&B run by Bob and Cindy Maddox. Outstanding! Bob is an ATP and runs an aircraft management business on the field. He provided some very useful local knowledge for a safe IFR departure across the mountains.

I normally fly into SBS about once a year during the summer. I had the opportunity to fly there in the winter this weekend to ski and since light snow and flurries were forecast I called the number listed for the airport manager to see about putting my Cessna in a hangar for deice. The man answering that phone said that even if they put my plane in a hangar for 5 minutes they would charge me $175. Most places will charge $20 (or even less if you buy fuel) for this service, which is mandatory if you have any frost or snow on your plane. I'll spend my money somewhere else.

Flew to SBS for a 6-day visit. The FBO was great the service was good. I come from the east with mountaintops at 4500, it seemed odd to descend from 13000 ft to the runway. The airport is in great condition. Steamboat is a great summer visit, enjoyed a few days of fly fishing, bike riding and took in the rodeo while we were there. It is our second visit, and we look forward to the next. Very friendly people.

Steamboat Springs is a great summer destination. Arrive in the AM, take one of the courtesy cars or better yet, take one of the courtesy mountain bikes for a 10-20 minute ride into town. The Creekside cafe makes a great breakfast. The town is a great experience. Just be wheels up before the afternoon thunderstorms roll in. It happens almost like clockwork in the mountains between 12 and 2.
