Chester Airplane Factory (on the field) is a terrific facility for GA aircraft maintenance. Careful, competent, thorough. In my 20 years of aircraft ownership, they are, by far, the best.

Although noted as Self Serve, there is no credit card reader by the pumps for after hour’s operation -- as we discovered late one evening.

I have been there on several occasions over the last 5 years to visit friends in the area. Excellent little airport to get in and out of. Helped me get my plane started yesterday in the cold weather and didn't charge me. Always fun landing on that short, sloping, narrow runway on top of the hill.

As airport manager Jimmy Olsen says ... "First class or no class". And Chester (SNC) is a first class operation. The airport is well run. The FBO is very helpful. And ... The repair shop (Chester Airplane Factory) is fantastic! SNC is a great placed to be based. It's also a great destination. Nice local shops and restaurants. Well worth your next $100 hamburger.

Chester is my home base. Couple of good points . . . Whelen Lighting (makers of strobe lights, LED's and more) are located adjacent to the field for repairs, or buying new. We also have a doctor that performs medicals at his hangar/office, making it easy to fly in & fly out. The maintenance facility, called Chester Airplane Factory, is very good too. The owner built and flies his own plane, and understands the pilot's point of view. Lastly, the field is one of the few to have 80 Octane fuel.

Hadn't been back to SNC (3B9 to us veterans) since I soloed in '78. Stopped for a few days on our way west. Beautiful surface, lights, AWOS, and a tidy, efficient FBO. Tie down forgiven with fuel purchase, and a double dose of New England charm, keeps Chester the best darn strip on the hill.
