I intended to get checked out so that I could fly some friends around the area during our vacation. Unfortunately West AIr let me with a very poor experience. The CFI was great, but the planes were not. During on preflight the CFI gave me plenty of local tips on routes in and around the bravo, good sights to see prior to my checkout. Though my enthusiasm declined after I saw the planes. The first checkout plane, fresh out of annual did not even have functioning brakes. Their mechanic took a look right away and moved us to another plane. The second plane was alright, much better avionics (Garmin 430), except for the inoperative placards on pretty much every instrument not required for Day VFR. Once the brakes were fixed on the first plane, I loaded up my friends, and started the engine. Only to find the avionics a decaying, mostly inoperative, static filled mess. Combined with rented headsets that hardly worked. I scrapped my flight and called Monarch Sky Flying Club instead, much better.

All the instructors at West Air are very knowledgeable and committed to getting their students trained quickly but also more important competently. Dan and Jason were able to get me from 20+ old hours to PPL check ride pass in 23 days (not including days off or wx related cancels). Thanks guys!

If you are looking to get checked out and take a plane over the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon, you cannot go wrong with West Air. It is a well-organized outfit. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Brett gives a very good briefing of the airspace, the VFR corridor and courtesy calls in the vicinity of the dam during the checkout. One tip if you take a taxi to VGT has arrangements to get picked back up before you take off. Waiting for a taxi can take 45-60 minutes. The air was like glass. Apparently, that is common this time of year. Between the smooth ride and the sights, this is about the best trip possible for new passengers to GA flying.

Rented 975TA with a friend to go and fly over the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. Jason Rury was really helpful getting me set up and Shad Rollo checked me out in exactly one hour. We rented the plane and headed out over the dam toward Grand Canyon West where we landed. We then flew around the loop back to North Las Vegas. The canyon airspace is nowhere near as complicated as I thought it would be and West Air Aviation was absolutely terrific in helping me with the flight plan. Absolutely awesome experience with all of the West Air folk. Thanks a ton!

KVGT is the place to land in Vegas. KLAS even with its GA FBO schedules so much commercial aviation that takeoff clearances can take longer than the drive to VGT. The climate in Vegas and the crew at West Air make a perfect combination if you’re looking for a top quality flight school.

The CFI School that I was about to attend went belly up the day I was to leave home in Maryland! I called West Air in a panic as I only had 2 weeks away from work to complete my CFI. Jason (Chief Instructor) arranged it for me. Within an hour he had scheduled plane and instructor for the 2 weeks and arranged the check ride with the local FSDO. He also got me some "ride alongs" to observe instruction, (thanks Tommy!) I can highly recommend Dan Ford as a CFI instructor. He got me through the ground and air phases within 10 days (check ride on the 11th). All the instructors helped out-sometimes lending me books and training aids not to mention encouragement. Brett gave me some lessons/flying tips when Dan was off. West Air was very professional and relatively easy on the wallet. I highly recommend them!

Visited Nellis in January and called West Air on short notice for a lesson. LaKwain, the dispatcher, went out of her way to set me up with instructor Mike Matthews and with N975TA, a nicely equipped C-172SP. Mike was a great instructor, both in the air and on the ground. Liked it so much, I've already arranged with Jason, the Chief Pilot, to return for another lesson on my next visit.

West Air is a good place to start. I just have to say, is avoid 'Romeo Alpha.' That has to be one of the worst aircraft in existence. Their other aircraft are good though. I recommend 'Two Hotel.'

Contacted West Air prior to our vacation and set up a flight demo/lesson. My Instructor, Mike Matthews was a class act! After going through the paper work and flight plan discussion we were off to the flight line. My wife, Mary was along for the ride and this was her first time in the air with me. I only have 20 hours in the book but I was treated like I fly there every day. My first time in Class B airspace was a blast! Great flight, very nice aircraft (N276TA 2002 Cessna 172SP). Thanks Mike for making Mary feel so at home. I only wish I would have scheduled the spin training on Thursday but had no time left in our busy schedule. We will be back to rent next time out to Vegas!
