I've been around this airport since the 90's and every year, about a week before the start of Lakeland Sun N Fun. Transient aircraft started arriving at KCLW. Many of those aircraft would stay 'parked' at KCLW and the owners would drive over to Lakeland, to avoid the heavy "airshow" traffic. But - That DID NOT HAPPEN this year. Why? I believe it's because the new management of KCLW decided to start charging a $16 landing fee (KZPH, KBOW and KGIF do not charge a landing fee) and KCLW has jacked up fuel prices to $6.76 a gallon (KZPH charges $4.50, KBOW charges $4.42, KGIF charges $4.35). I believe that aircraft owners have comparison-shopped, and decided there are SEVERAL options for Sun N Fun that are less expensive than KCLW.

Flew in with my Bonanza and couldn't be more pleased with FlyUSA. Beth got us a fantastic rate on a rental car. This airport is the closest to the beach and is truly a hidden gem. Easy in/out with Tampa approach. We are losing too many airports like this to developers, just glad they haven't managed to get their mitts on this one. 5 Stars all the way!

Flew in to pick up passenger. Was greeted on Unicom when taxiing and directed to parking spot. Personnel were friendly and asked as to our needs for fuel. I informed that we were just picking up passenger and luggage and did not need fuel. We were offered water. Very pleasant experience and no fees charged.
