Landed at CXP on 31 Oct 2009 to fill up at the self service pump. After 3 attempts to actuate the pump with my credit card, I gave up. I did find later from other pilots that even though no notice was posted on the tank, the 100LL tank was empty.

Response from Michael Golden, Managing Partner, Mountain West Aviation
Mr. Odell, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you experienced at our facility. We had to drain our tanks in order to relocate our facility, which was to take place on November 2nd. We have since moved to our new location and will re-open on December 4th. We look forward to providing our customers with the lowest price fuel in the Region again once we re-open at our new facility, immediately east of our former location.

Stopped by CXP and fueled at Mountain West on 11/28/08... Fuel was $3.55 self-serve, as advertised. The pumps are on the north side of Rwy 9/27, off Taxiway Bravo. We never did find where Mountain West's actual building is, but Hertz left a car for us in the terminal parking lot. We'll be back for the cheap gas!

After I fueled up and took off I noticed fuel pouring out the wing tank (no fuel cap). I thought to land ahead on the runway, but than decided to "fly the airplane" (my instructors voice in my head). I flew the pattern trying to keep the one wing high to avoid dumping a lot of fuel. As I landed the owner of Mountain West pulled up. He saw me in the air with vaporizing fuel trailing behind. He was glad I made it back OK and to jump in his truck and we would find the gas cap. We found it in the run-up area, undamaged and returned to my plane. Than he said, "taxi over to the pumps and I will top you off for free". I couldn't believe it, what a great guy and great experience. It was cold today and I was dreading walking the length of the taxiway, runway and fuel areas to find my gas cap---hoping it hadn't blown into the snow and disappeared. Here is a guy who helped me out and gave me 7 gallons of gas! Thanks Mountain West-- you are the people that make flying so enjoyable.

Landed there for fuel yesterday and had the gear not extend without emergency assistance. A local pilot in the pattern heard me break off the downwind to lower the gear and he immediately offered to fly under and confirm down. Great airport pilot community is evident just from the interaction at the fuel pump. Highly recommend a stop. Looks like an airport that I could easily become a regular...Thx for the great price on 100LL too!!

This airport is a great alternative to Reno. Plus if you're going to Tahoe, it's really close. The FBO got us set up with a rental car and provided us with assisted service for JetA. You can't beat the price. With fuel prices continually on the rise, this place is worth the effort to self-serve and save a lot of money.

Pretty much the same setup as before. New machine and nozzle. In good shape over the last 3 months. First ~800ft of RWY 27 getting "dented" from hard-landing aircraft, so a little pitch bumpy on takeoff. Landing a little long avoids a bit of shadow effect due to the hill abeam the numbers. Also, it is courteous to residents on short final who have had crashes in their yard in recent years. There are 2 red lights bordering the residential houses along final. Rise in runway makes it hard to see planes on other end. Great GA airport. Multiple ultralights and LSA's routinely operate there and are courteous & competent.
