This is a great little airport. It's obvious the operators take real pride in this operation -- they couldn't have been more helpful, the building is very nice, and they had free hot dogs and donuts for all the Oshkosh-bound pilots. Free hot dogs and donuts!!! A great place to watch a thunderstorm go by.

Visited OXI on the way to the Cessna 150/152 International Fly-In in Clinton, Iowa with 13 other C-150's 24 July. The service from the manager was outstanding! She had both pumps running and had all 14 planes topped off in no time! Additionally, she took photos of the formation take-off and had them e-mailed to our homes before we landed at Clinton! Super stop - nice paved and turf runways. The C-150/152 Club of American thanks you! Well done!

Stopped in late on a Sunday for fuel. Good fuel prices, access to washrooms, and easy to use 24 hour self serve fuel.

Stopped in about a month ago to visit friends at Bass Lake. They let me keep the car all day and evening. I offered the man a twenty-dollar tip but he refused. Very nice and clean airport, great service.

Stopped at OXI for fuel on Saturday and had a starter problem. Since the FBO had already closed the Asst. Airport Manager, Jeff, helped troubleshoot the problem, but it couldn't be fixed. He helped me push the A/C into a hangar and immediately tossed me the keys to the courtesy vehicle. My wife and I had a pleasant unplanned stop in Knox, IN for a night. Got to go for a walk in a local park and watch a Little League game. The Astoria hotel is no frill but clean, with two restaurants in walking distance. A/C fixed the next day and we were off for home. Thanks again to Jeff and the friendly folks at Starke Co. And the City of Knox.

Also a great stop on our eastbound trip. Pam provided us with a courtesy car overnight. She made us reservations at the only hotel in Knox, the Astoria. Would probably be better named the Austeria. Virtually no amenities. You even had to sign out the TV remote co0ntol from the desk. Clean and folks were polite. A satisfactory port in the storm.

10Sep06 - Got the same excellent service on the annual westward trip. This is one of my preferred stops.

Stopped here on the way to Oshkosh. Pam the airport Mgr. Runs a perfectly clean and beautiful FBO. I think all FBO's should be run by women! She even had waterless hand cleaner and paper towels out at the SS pumps. Fuel was the best price I found from NJ to Oshkosh. A must stop!!

A clarification of my poorly worded previous comment: My negative experience only had to do with the one hotel serving Knox, IN, not the airport itself. Pam and Jeff (airport mgr/assistant mgr) pour their hearts and souls into the airport, ensuring that all who fly into OXI have the best possible experience within the airport's resources. Both of them give up a lot of their free time to assist pilots in need, which is exactly what Jeff did the evening we were stranded there. The latest word is that OXI is getting a mechanic on field this month. This will mitigate the risk of becoming stranded due to mechanical incidents and make the excellent service offered by the airport even better, which means that I will always consider refueling at OXI for my x/c trips.

I always plan a fuel/rest stop here when crossing the US in my Bonanza. Jeff and Pam are, as usual, always extremely helpful and friendly. I must add, though, that on my latest trip, my Bonanza's starter died at this airport late Friday night. I was forced to put up my family in a nearby hotel, the Astoria, supposedly the only one for miles. I was given a sheet of room rates by the airport that had been set by hotel mgmt for airport fly-ins. When I arrived at the hotel, the desk clerk would not honor the rates. Instead he insisted on charging us full rack rate since we didn't have a reservation. Very, very discouraging. The risk of having to spend another unplanned night at that hotel might cause me to reconsider my future fuel stops.

Knox is a plain Jane airport with consistently CHEAP FUEL prices. I make a habit of stopping here anytime I'm passing thru northern, IN. Usually I can land, fill up, and be back in the air in 15 - 20 min. Bathroom & vending machines are available and the folks are friendly.

Another really fine airport on our cross-the-country adventure (PHF to OAK). Stopped for fuel ('twas done quickly) and lunch. TS in the area threatened hail so the airport manager had us put the C-172 in a hangar. Then he handed keys to us for the crew car to go to lunch. Wow, what great service.

I flew into Starke County today to feed my hungry Cirrus with some 100LL. Before I started the gas pump, Pam came out to meet me and told me to wait until she changed the price of 100LL from $2.93 to 2.52. Quit a savings!! This is an example of the continuing friendly service I have received from the folks at Starke County. I recommend them every chance I get. Thanks again.

As part of a flight of six Cessna 120-140's we were met and assisted by a very friendly and helpful airport manager. Fuel prices were the lowest we've seen in many months. Stopped the next day on the way home and the price of 100LL had actually gone down. Manager advised we are not here to make money, but to provide service to pilots. I would highly recommend this airport to anyone flying south of Lake Michigan. (Note: We were there back in Sept. '04, but just found this web site)
