Can't beat the gas prices! Note that some of the tiedown spots do not have chains or ropes, so you may want to bring your own if you fly in on a busy weekend. We found a spot close to the fuel pumps which had tiedowns. Watch the density altitudes -- they can exceed 10, 000' on summer afternoons.

An unusual FBO, but friendly. Take your own tie-down ropes; the recessed tie-down eyes may be covered by dirt or water, so kinda' messy. Ramp is well marked. 24 hour self serve fuel. FBO is very noise sensitive/aware. Runway 26 is default take-off if options available. Callaway Maintenance across the field is very service oriented. Brad Callaway will come over on his four-wheeler. Don't walk across the runway.

Still has lower priced gas. Paid $4.99 gal for 100LL. My price at CRQ is $5.49 gal for SS. Density altitude was 9,000 ft. windy and turbulent at mid afternoon. Be Careful. Use Airport Rent-A-Car. Charged $10.00 per hour plus fuel. $40.00 max charge. Great people. Barnstormer Cafe and Good Chinese on the airport. We drove in town and ate at the Peppercorn Inn in the village. Great food, Highly recommend. This is a great place for a $200 dollar hamburger.

Great escape from the concrete jungle of LA. We fly in at least once a month. Rental car only $10/ hour ($40 max per day) and they meet you at your plane. The Barnstorm Cafe is a great place for lunch or dinner is you want to stay at the airport. Great view of the runway. The lake now has a new plush paddleboat offering 90 minutes rides around the lakes. 17 bucks - worth it. There is a digital readout at each end of the runway displaying Air Density.

Stopped in for fuel en-route from Santa Monica airport to Tucson in a RV-4. Friendly place to visit, cheap gas (self serve), nice runway, restaurant at the FBO.... Density altitude was 9500' so don't go there in an underpowered aircraft. Great views of the mountains, lake and huge trees! I needed a funnel to put some oil in my engine. They didn't have one but Bob at the FBO made me one that worked great. This is the type service you'll get there versus other places.

These low fuel prices are the best-kept secret in Southern California. Taxi is sort of spotty maybe better to get a cheap rental instead. Interesting new flying destination blog has more info on flying in.

Cheap fuel, beautiful scenery, good restaurant. This is one of the great places to fly into in So Cal. Watch the winds and density altitude

Stopped in for a day of sightseeing (3/11/07) and discovery around town. Was unseasonably warm, like 70F or so. Plenty of transient parking. Attendant was friendly and helpful. Gas was $3.18 at the time, and the SS pump worked fine. I am based at the busiest GA airport in the world, and this little Mountain Top strip beats our SS fuel price by nearly a dollar!!! Nifty airport, and non-gouge policy.

Great airport with cheap gas. Self-Serve works great and you can't beat the price. Very nice terminal bldg, plenty of parking, and the locals are friendly. The airport restaurants are both very good, but for a change of pace, take a 10-minute walk through the pines to Thelma's cafe. It's on the main drag just east of the airport entrance. Excellent food and service.

Great stopover!! Fuel prices are the lowest in the West. I like it because the elevation is high and therefore you do not have to drop down to below sea-level (a la PSP) for fuel and then climb back up to the high MEA in the area. Make sure that you move your plane after fueling though, because the pumps are pretty busy with planes sometimes waiting in line for fuel. The good thing is that there is always someone there (waiting in line) to help you push your plane out of the way. Food at the Cafe is really pretty good airport fare, too. But, if you get there on a Sunday during early afternoon, you may have to wait for a table. I guess the locals think it is pretty good too. I would like to see a better pilot's lounge with computer weather and phones, but hey, the people are friendly, the fuel is cheap, and the food good. What more can you ask for.

Pacific Crest is awesome and they have a great website with a lot of useful information. Fuel (100LL) is self serve but easy access and very reasonable prices $3.71 at this posting.

We stayed at Big Bear Airport House for the weekend. Fantastic! Tied down, 2 minute walk to the cabin! Coolest fly-in we ever did!

How the City of Big Bear can haul fuel up the Mountain, and it's a tuff drive even in a car, then sell aviation fuel for such a low price is beyond me? Right now Big Bear is the cheapest fuel in the LA area, $.07 and gallon below the number two guy and $1.71 a gallon below KSNA. I stop at Big Bear about 3 times a week for a meal and a fill up. Really nice airport too!

Be advised that there is no self service jet fuel. Also jet fuel is only available off the fuel truck Mon.-Fri, not on the weekends.
