There is a 1500 foot displaced threshold on 31. Use all of it on takeoff! Watch for the big hill on final on 31. Need to be at or above 1700' when reaching the peak of the hill the pulsating VASI works some times. You'll probably need to click the lights on when you are on left downwind. The pulsating VASI is 6 degrees! This is a pretty steep drop once you intercept solid white. The preferred runway is 31. Winds are usually calm on the field, but they do tend to favor 31. Use Mather (KMHR) ATIS for altimeter setting. They usually match up nicely. Runway dips in the middle -- it is not level. Pilot hill is just before the turn from left downwind to base on 13. It is 2059' feet! So basically it’s within 200' of pattern altitude if your altimeter is set correctly. There is transient parking in the east tie down area at the south end before the t-hangars. 5 spots. It's not unusual for them to all be full.

They now have four tiedown spots at the southeast side of the ramp near the other reserved sports. The transient spots are the southernmost row and have white "T"s on the ground. Neat little airport.

Please keep in mind that the airport is owned by the residents of the air park. It could be private but they keep it public so let's all be nice. As for parking please don't park in closed areas or someone else's tie down spot. If you need more parking, Placerville (PVF) is only about 6 miles east. The airpark welcomes everyone but we need to keep this info in mind when we leave comments.

Several of the transient spaces have been forced close by Cal-trans. They claim they were too close to the runway. The mid-field area is really set up to get fuel and leave. There are some transient spaces on the South’s end below the car-parking hill. There is a full service maintenance facility on the far South end.

Agree about the steep/strange approach to 31, but had no problem getting a Velocity XL in. People were friendly to me. Short 5 minute walk to Las Primas mexican restaurant across street.

Residential airport/airpark -- no welcome mat for us transients, as one would expect, but it did the trick for our brief stop. Restrooms are near the BP pump, by the airport manager's office (approx midfield) -- sort of a hike from those 3 transient spots. Mechanics at the opposite end wouldn't offer us their 100, and were sort of gruff about having been asked. Very strange and steep approach to 31, and airport is in a bit of a valley -- would have been impossible to find without GPS or some forethought. You might need that plotter to get a DME/radial fix! Cafe within walking distance had some decent eats, in the strip mall to the east. There's also a "casino/bar/grill" which we didn't get to try.

You need more parking. There is only 3 transient spaces, and no where for overflow. How do you expect anyone to use the airport, when you cannot park your plane? Was in from out of town, and had no where to park, parked in old fuel area with orange cones, somebody taped a note stating private property, continued violation will result in confiscation of plane. Get real, if I knew who put the note on my plane, I would place it somewhere on their person, they would not like. Either run the airport correctly, or close it. Maybe more motor homes would be good.
