Stopped by early in the morning for a fuel run. I hadn't been to Baytown for quite a while, but I checked AirNav for prices and found they were back in business with the best fuel price around. The place has really changed. Nice new offices and pilot amenities. Nice new T-hangars. Tommy helped me fuel up and I found out a lot from him about what has happened over the last year or so. Baytown is only 10 miles from my home base of LaPorte. Definitely worth the short trip to top off.

Called for rent-a-car and couldn't arrive due to weather until 2 hrs. after Raceco's normal 5 pm closing time. They immediately offered to have a lineman meet me at 7 pm. Arrived in the rain and was promptly given direction and assistance to park in front of their main hangar. They offered to put-up in the hangar overnight at no charge and promptly did so using their tow-bot. Needed fuel for the return trip the next day following business meeting, so they topped it off as requested and had the plane pulled out and ready to go the next day. Full-service at the lowest self-serve price in the area. Exceptional and courteous service! Very nice facility. Strongly recommend Raceco at HPY when you are in the Baytown -

Excellent FBO. The fuel prices can't be beat. I am most impressed with the manager (Charlie). He has completely turned a sow's-ear into a silk-purse so to speak. He has completely rebuilt and furnished the FBO (a huge plus, if you care about comfort). He has also widened the runway -- it's now new and smooth. But most impressive is his availability -- when the FBO was closed, I called the second number listed -- it was his personal cell phone. I'll definitely be back -- many times.
Response from Charles Danley, Airport Manager, Raceco Inc. Update on airport. Runway and taxiways are complete. Runway lighting is complete and pilot controlled. Beacon is complete. New main hangar is 98% complete, new T-hangar is 80%. New staff at the airport is first rate and very customer focused. Fuel pricing is current on airport. If you don't like something you can call me direct at 713-303-8638.

Just an update on the airport construction. We hope to open 6/2/09 for a couple of days and then close again on 6/4 and 6/5 to finish the striping on the new runway. Plan to be open again full time on 6/6. We have completed the runway and taxiways; hangars are under construction and should be finished in 2 months.

Just a reminder for those who short jaunt within the area that Baytown will be closed until 1 Jun. Yes, we all look at our NOTAMs before heading to a destination airport.
Response from Charles Danley, Airport Manager, Raceco Inc. Update on the airport. We have completed widening the runway to 60' all taxiways to 35'. Installing foundations for the new main hangar and new t-hangar. The fuel system has been upgraded. Will be installing new runway lighting with REIL's and PAPI's. Airport should be open again by June 1st. Call or watch NOTAMS.

Worked out of HPY for a month and a half. The staff was extremely kind and welcoming to the crew and myself. We enjoyed our short time at Baytown. Great fuel price and an even better staff. The new manager Charles was great from the start. If everyone that comes in to HPY is treated like we were... This airport will do well. Thanks to Charly, Robert and Michelle (Roger and Melissa :)) for their great service as well.

Stopped into Baytown to visit family and had to buy gas. Pros: --Paid $3.33/gal (which was cheap at the time) --One of the mechanics was very kind and offered to let me use his phone when the landline didn't work. Cons: --The ladies at the desk were not friendly or helpful. For working on an airport and dealing with pilots they seemed to be completely clueless as to any of a pilot's basic needs. I requested two quarts of oil and when I asked if I could borrow a funnel they stared at me blankly as if they had no idea what I meant. I ended up having to walk to a nearby hangar and borrow one from a friendly pilot because they couldn't take the time to find me one. The whole transaction was cold and off-putting. Don't expect customer service here, but then again you get what you pay for and this place has cheap gas.

Stopped in yesterday 6/2/08 and there was a sticky note on the pump that said fuel was now $4.50/Gal!!! So much for the Guaranteed price thing!! AirNav said $4.08! Other than the price, your standard fuel stop.
Response from Charles Danley, Airport Manager, Raceco Inc. I am the new airport manager and also a corporate pilot flying a Citation out of HPY. I have read your comments and sorry for some of the treatment some have received. We are in the process of completely remodeling the office area with new ADA approved restrooms, flight planning room, kitchen, lobby and several offices. This work will be completed by mid September 2008. The runway and taxiways are scheduled to be completely redone with a 60' wide runway and 35' wide taxiways later this year. There are many more upgrades planned. I am a pilot and understand what a pilot wants and needs and I think you will be surprised if and when you visit us again. We are also keeping the fuel prices current on AirNav. Again sorry for any problems you have had in the past, but give us one more try and I believe you will like the service and new look of the airport.

Stopped in for fuel. Was assisted by friendly personnel even though the stop was brief. Nice prices for fuel.

I stopped here today for the Guaranteed price of $3.79/gallon. When I arrived, the pump said $3.98 on it. I figured "what the heck...I'm here", and filled up. Then the receipt showed that I had been charged $4.08/gallon! I went inside to complain, and was met with a "who cares" attitude from the person running the place, who was too busy with his paperwork to even get up and talk about it. I can deal with higher gas prices, but I won't deal with that attitude, and won't stop thee again.

This is a bare bones fuel stop. No restrooms or flight planning. Fuel pump works great. It does not make a noise when you switch it on, but it works after your credit card has been approved and you flip the lever on the pump.

Stopped for fuel on 22 March 2008. Very sporty on a windy/hazy day. Fuel price as advertised. FYI- the pump does not make a sound when you turn it on, but it works. The grounding wire needs replacing. We did not find a restroom or a planning area.
