I stopped here today for fuel and lunch. One of the self-service pumps does not shut off when you release the handle so I put a pint or two of 100LL on the flight line (and in the open door of my Cessna). When I mentioned it, the guy at the desk said, "Oh yea, we know about that." I felt like asking, "then why don't you put a sign on the pump?" The crew car is a city-owned, dilapidated, dirty sedan and I had to put $5 in fuel in order to make sure I didn't run out of gas on the way to lunch. When I mentioned it, the attitude was sort of "OK, thanks." The bottom line is that the fuel is not the cheapest in the area but certainly not the most expensive either. It was a good stop because of the number of hotels close to the airport and I thought I might have to spend the night for weather. All in all, I likely wouldn't avoid it, but I wouldn't seek it out either.

Nice low-key airport. Taxi was somewhat hard to find as one of the taxi services (Ellen) was out of town for the Easter weekend. Used Praize Taxi at 843-635-5633. He came right out. Ellen taxi service # is 843-635-4854. Enterprise rent a car # is 843-549-6514.

We selected RBW as our stop for our tour of Charleston on Sunday March 29 because of very high gusting surface winds and RBW has three runways. Unicom promptly updated us on the winds. The self serve pumps worked fine. RBW has a nice clean terminal building and restrooms. Because we purchased fuel there was no charge for tie down the five days we were there. We elected to take a taxi over to Hampton Inn in Waterboro for the first night and get the Enterprise rent car the next morning. Great place to stop.

Flew in 4/5/2008. Self serve gas works great. Nice terminal building. The day I was there, free hot dogs, chips, and pop. Weather computer. Friendly people. This is a great gas stop!

Stayed for two nights in RBW (Jan 15th & 16th). This are some nice folks, I bought fuel at the SS pump, which was easy to get to, and to operate. I had a car rented from Enterprise; it was waiting for me when I arrived. The airport has crew cars, but as I did not use one I can not comment; however I did eat at Dukes BBQ, in town, the food was good, and the restaurant’s location combined with crew car availability makes this a good en route lunch stop.

Flew into Walterboro on 21 and 22 December. Although a small airport without many of the facilities found at major airports, service is generally good. There is only one fuel truck and one lineman, so you may have to wait if another airplane arrives immediately before you. Be alert, as there is a surprising amount of traffic at Walterboro and two runways (9-27 & 17-35) are closed, but no NOTAM is on file with flight service and the Airport/Facility Directory only mentions taxiways being closed due to "washouts and potholes." As of 22 December, the only notice of the closed runways is a low volume voice addition to the AWOS.

Had an alternator failure en route to Walterboro (Shaw and Charleston approach were very helpful). While the repair shop at KRBW was closed, the airport staff went out of their way to get a rental car arrange so my passengers could continue on to Florida. The staff provides me with the name on a reputable shop at nearby KDYB (see my comments there) and a battery charger to get me started again. Returned to Walterboro after the repairs and the staff once again went out of their way to help me get a hotel room and let me keep the crew car overnight free of charge. Nice self serve fuel facility. Fuel prices are comparable in the area. Multiple runways and plenty of tie downs make Low Country airport an excellent en route stop. Good Internet access and flight planning area.

I saw the fuel price online 3.49 and went out of my way to land here. There is no indication of the prices at the pump. So I assumed the price was as listed on AirNav. When I got the receipt the price was 4.17. I won't be back. If you go I would recommend calling ahead. As for the facilities I found the bathroom sink looked like they wash aircraft parts in it, not a complaint I would normally make but at 4.17 a gallon I could stop at Hilton Head!
Response from Bryon Miller, Lowcountry Regional Airport Mr. Welsh I am sorry about you fuel price experience. Your flight was over a price change. I have given you a refund of the difference between the AirNav price and the pumped price. Thanks for bringing the sink to our attention. I will agree it needs replaced.
