Stopped in at KCPK for the first time for a fuel stop. Staff was attentive and helpful despite large crowds viewing a B-17 on display. Self-Serve reasonably priced. Will be back.

Reasonable place for GA pilots to fly. Easy access, and easy rental car, but no courtesy car. $5 a night parking fee for single engine Cessna which is not expensive, but considering this field is publicly owned and publicly operated, just like my home base EQY (Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport) - very similar field - where transients are charged NO parking fee. Staff was friendly and did help jump a dead battery using the APU.

Friendly customer service, efficient. Line personnel greeted us immediately and our charter customers were treated very well. Crew car provided at no charge. Flight planning services in flight school. Runways, ramp and taxiways very good condition. Airport Manager on site for Chesapeake Airport Authority was very willing to explain future expansion plans and funding is already secured. We had several small maintenance issues that were immediately resolved at reasonable prices. Wireless Internet very accessible.

Saturday, October 13, 2007 Very friendly and attentive service. Customer service arranged for a Hertz rental, we were a walk in. Line personnel were very professional and courteous. Lobby clean, even had homemade cookies and great Krispy Kreme donuts for customers. Restrooms clean. Fuel prices were competitive, lower than others in the area. They now have a new public access computer available for flight planning in a quiet part of the Horizon Flight School building, easily accessible. Nice set up for planning, wide variety of charts and the personnel in the school were very helpful with area advice and local attractions.

Great service! Car rental via Hertz was very simple. You can reserve through Hertz at (757) 424-8034 (would be helpful if this number was on the Horizon web site) or through Horizon directly. Horizon had cars available on site, and check you in/out right at the Horizon desk. Bring a map or Mapquest directions as the airport is out in the middle of nowhere with few signs and lots of recent road construction rendering old maps useless. Self-service fueling was reasonably priced and user-friendly with 24-hour availability. Well-stocked shelves for pubs and GA equipment. No public web access for electronic flight planning but good weather info computer. Nice little "pilots lounge" behind the office. Thanks!

Great gas stop while traveling up the east coast. Great runway and facilities, great price. Remember to go to the left side of the FBO when you walk in. There is a private lounge for pilots and restroom, so you don't have to wait in line for the public one, and the weather computers are on that side too.

I've flown in a couple of times in the last few weeks. The runway/taxiways/tie downs are in very good shape. Self-serve pump #1 is inoperative. The attendant, Brad, said it was marked on the credit card reader, but I missed it. The pump might be a better place to mark it. Anyway, it is not an issue as long as you are aware of it. They have another 100LL pump at the same location. Rental cars are very reasonable for an FBO. The $5 a night parking fee is not waived with fuel purchase. However, the alternative is $15/night + landing fee at ORF.

Flew into CPK for the weekend of July 6, 2007. My experience here was great! Staff was wonderful and very helpful. They had hangar space. Great alternative to ORF because of the costs. It's about a 30 min drive from VA Beach but well worth the savings! I would recommend Horizon!

As an update to my earlier post, Horizon's owner called me and asked about my experience -- not in response to my post, but because he saw that the FBO failed to fuel my plane. He was genuinely interested in addressing any problems, and I was impressed with his willingness to talk to me directly at his own initiative. My sense is that he heard me out, is committed to taking a hard look at any problems and making changes. With senior management on the case, I think Horizon is worth a second chance.

Upon landing, I was directed to the far end of the ramp without any line man. It took time to figure out where they wanted me. I requested fuel, but the driver of the fuel truck was joy riding around the airport and didn't seem to want to be bothered. I tied down the plane myself (which is OK), while the ramp guy skate boarded around the airport and the fuel truck kept going round and round without stopping. As I carried four pieces of luggage and tried to find Horizon (no sign), the fuel truck passed me several times without the least interest in helping. I finally found Horizon, filled out a ticket for fuel, picked up my rental car, and returned two days later. No fuel -- but the fuel truck was still driving around the ramp in seeming circles. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any good alternative in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area. If I ran my companies like this, I'd be out of business.

I had a pop-up Learjet trip to Chesapeake Va. And called at 5:00 PM for an arrival at 8:00 AM. Horizon had no problem setting up a rental car. The fuel price was excellent, we chose self-serv and saved another $.50 per gallon. The facility was comfortable and clean and the wireless internet was a little slow but worked fine. They have WSI weather and the manager, Bryan Steigerwald made every effort to make us feel welcome. This FBO is not plush but an all day layover was not a chore. I will be back.

Excellent place to fly in for the Chesapeake/Norfolk area. The people were friendly and attentive and gas prices are low. Wireless Internet is available for weather.

I diverted in for weather. I found the place basically clean but the computer access in the flight planning area is inadequate. You cannot get decent weather on the system they have available and there is no generic Internet access to get to adds or AOPA.

After seeing comments re: Horizon I almost switched. But my meeting was nearby so I made a call. The lady was nice, helped w/car rental, gave great info on hotels. I was met at the plane and he brought the rental car out w/out my having to ask. My experience was pleasant. BIG complaint: I have NEVER seen a weather computer as useless as theirs. It's one step more sophisticated than licking your finger and holding it up in the air. I knew there was a segment for t-storms. Not only did the system not show the signet, it didn't show the storm cells. The explanation I got was it was for "low level" briefings. Too bad for pilots flying under those cells! With onboard Nexrad I could figure it out airborne. But if the cells had been right on top or nearing the airport, it would have been difficult. It could be a nice FBO if they spent a few bucks and just did the basics. I would probably use them again if it was convenient, but I can also access weather on a portable computer if need be!

It sure is a shame to have such a nice terminal building and give such little thought to providing a suitable pilots lounge. The room was dirty, the television was a junker, and very few channels to choose from. The restroom was filthy. Also, the outside door next to the pilot's lounge kept banging shut so it was impossible to get any rest. The upside to this trip was the good service from the Lady working the counter and the fuel price was in line with everyone else.

Horizon flight center is the only game in town, and they make it a challenge to be a customer (of the transient variety). Employees see transients as something to barely tolerate since the main reason for existence is the flight school and transients will probably use the SS pump. I'LL NEVER go back there again even though the other area airports increase my surface travel time. It's worth not dealing with surly, rude and disrespectful Horizon employees.

Flew in a BE-58 and needed around 150 gals. of fuel. In the conversation I mentioned I needed the crew car for about 10 minutes. Was told the car was avaiable only to corporate jets. The young lady was rude and uninterested in helping. Told her I would go to Suffolk (SFQ) to buy fuel and she said "fine" SFQ is merely a few miles away. Tried them again and was picking passengers up at 8:00 am. No one arrived until 8:20 and all were late for a meeting.
